You might say this equine has what folks refer to as "horse sense" when it comes to dressing for the winter months. He dons a furry coat for this cold time of year and then topped it off with a dusting of snow to insulate a bit more! Looks like Ashley Byykkonen's friend's Dad has a bit of the same sense, since he's attired for the weather, complete in Yooperwear. Which includes swampers, something to keep his ears warm and bright orange gloves to match. Checking out the background of the photo, it looks like this horse has a scenic view from his pasture, making that trek out to feed him each day a bit more pleasant.

Fulfilling requests for a new feature, similar to our end of the month memorial, we came up with the NEW ARRIVALS page where you can share the news of the stork's arrival, including a picture if you so desire. Now, today being the first day of the month, we list all the deliveries that have been posted the previous month:

"New Arrivals Honor Roll"
Devin Nathaniel
Hallie Elizabeth
Jaden Lynn
Lauren Anne
Lyle Dennis Paulson
Noah Patrick

Congratulations to all the proud parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles!

Where is the blanket?

By Donna on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 06:40 am:

Nice picture...but for New Arrivals, how about pics of baby critters or baby somethings, or something "New"! :-D

Good idea, Donna. I searched the galleries for a pic of something "babyish", but was unsuccessful in finding a U.P. baby something suitable! So I'm putting out a challenge to all the gallery photographers to get some shots of baby somethings in interesting settings around the U.P. for future 1st's of the month!
Feel free to email
me when you've added something new to your gallery too! :->

By Sarah, Stuck in Ohio on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 06:54 am:

Great idea Mary! Lyle Dennis is my adorable little nephew! He's a red-head!!!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 06:58 am:

Looks like a day of work for the horse. But, he's dressed for it.

By Anita from the U.P. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 07:09 am:

I would like to add the name of a new baby girl, born January 10, 2005. Clara Jane from Ashland, Wisconsin. I get to share my birthday with this new little one:)

By R. Ollila Westland, MI on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 08:11 am:

A fine picture as always. Looks like a fresh snowfall. I can almost smell the clean crisp air.

By Kate, CA on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 09:32 am:

I'll bet Ashley's Dad would look really fetching in a yooper's own Stormy Kromer!!

By Kate, CA on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 09:33 am:

Oops, I meant Ashley's friend's dad would look fetching in a Stormy Kromer!! Who wouldn't? Now that's real Yooper wear.

By Janie, IA. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 10:19 am:

A very handsome horse you have! I have a Welsh pony mare (Flirt) that is just about a twin to this horse in the pic. She is one of nine ponies I own and treasure!

By JP dfw tx on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 10:39 am:

Ahh true yoopers know what a Kromer is eh?

By Paul Roberts, Mohawk on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 10:50 am:

Way to go Larry! You made the Pasty Cam!

By Joe Finn, Rhinelander, Wi on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 10:51 am:

The Kromer is now made in the U.P. They are made in Ironwood. I have three.

By Peg, Green Bay on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 11:16 am:

Can someone post a picture of a Kromer for a non-Yooper? Thanks

By Kevin K. Lodi, CA. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 11:42 am:

A Kromer is like the hat that Elmer Fudd wears.

By Steve,WI on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 11:43 am:

Go to the Pasty.com home page, in the Browse n shop and look for the ad for Stormy Kromer and you will see what they look like and even order one.

By Peg 'O My Hardt, Green Bay on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 11:55 am:

Who's Elmer Fudd? ;o)

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 11:58 am:

By Peg, Green Bay on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 12:03 pm:

Ah...Like they wear on the "Red Green Show". Thanks Steve!

By Kelley, Paradise,MI on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 12:14 pm:

Whos Red Green?

By shelly on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 12:19 pm:

RED Green is hilarious!

By Roudy Mi on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 12:40 pm:

He's a Yooper masquerading as a Canadian and has a TV show. First time I saw it thought it was produced by WLUC. The stuff of legends born here on the pasty cam.

By Ski-Yooper-Sisu on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 12:52 pm:

Congrats to Bohemia Ski Hill for the recent (Feb 2005 issue)article in "SKI" magazine a nationally known publication and authority on the best places to ski.
Front cover mention and a nice 3 page write up.

By Missin the UP from NJ on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 12:56 pm:

Ahhhh... I was feeling like my day wasn't quite on track, then I remembered! I hadn't checked out Pastycam yet! Now, all's right with my world! ANOTHER great picture and also the idea about New Arrivals. Looking forward to those posts. ;)I think the cutest babies born, have some connection to the UP!

Oh yeah, Red Green! The first time I saw him, I too, thought it could've been produced by WLUC TV! OMYGOSH! he is soooo funny! When you're not 'Laughing Out Loud' at his antics, you're laughing on the inside! I first saw him on the PBS station coming out of Montclair, NJ. I thought they were very cool to put his show on the air.

By Jeff Brookins, Maryland on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 01:55 pm:

It has been a while since I posted, I am off the USS Wasp, still pray for those deployed. Mary, you asked about Sam Brookins months back, he is a cousin of mine and was married June 04, it made for a great excuse to go to the UP with my wife and kids enjoying the great scene at lake of the clouds. But all that aside I bought my first Stormy Kromer two weeks ago and the people here in Maryland love it. It is like the Eddie Bauer from the UP.

Mary says: Thanks for the update Jeff! I've sent you an email...

By Nate on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 02:43 pm:

I'm not sure how to post this as an actual picture, but here is a link to a picture of my 2 new nieces born Dec. 23rd 2004. They are new residents of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

How many of you men know the motto that the men recite that starts " I am a man...."

By sh on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 03:50 pm:

Sorry, must clarify, the motto from the RED GREEN show.

Why, Shelly, are you THE shelly from Houston???

By Ron, Michigan on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 04:14 pm:

"I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess."

By Tammy, Grand Ledge, Michigan on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 04:14 pm:

My husband and two year old son both have matching black Stormy Kromer's purchased by my mom for them for Christmas. I can't tell you how many people have mentioned how adorable my son looks in his. "What a cute hat" they all say. I'd have to agree.

By shelly on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 04:32 pm:

Jeff-
It is I. I read posts often, just felt compelled to join in on the RED GREEN since I love that kind of humor. I'm kinda "touched" in the head a little. HA HA

By halwine, MI on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 04:50 pm:

Nice work on the picture of the twins Nate!

By Jeff in Texas on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 04:51 pm:

Glad to see you're still here, Shelly. I was saddened when we all "disbanded" as it were. I've been a RG fan for many years myself.

By Obstinately in the mid 20th century on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 05:37 pm:

And "Quando omni flunkus moritati" which I translate as, "When all else fails, play dead." I love the RG show but cant get reception on my rabbit ears. Anyone know of a good indoor TV antenna? I cant put one on the roof and I refuse to pay $$$ for cable.

By tom t c mich on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 06:11 pm:

Just get a friend to tape the shows

By Trish, WA on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 07:59 pm:

Nice photo! Looks like this horse is a true yooper, no
blanket clip on him, just his warm winter coat. I'd like to
saddle up, tie a rope to the horn and put on skis... we used
to go ski-joring when we were younger- that was fun,and
the horses enjoyed the snow and cold as much as we did.

By gottakromer on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 08:18 pm:

Kromers are very cool! Is Red Green really a yooper? I
thought he was from Ontario.

By flyin on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 08:29 pm:

Red Green only wishes he was a Yooper......Eh?

By Donna on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 08:37 pm:

Not too shabby for the first time posting the newest little additions to the Pasty Family!!!

Way to go Mary Butchie! heehee

Cute one Donna! ;->

By The Urban Escapees,MI on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 09:40 pm:

What a beautiful horse! A very nice photo.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 - 10:42 pm:

Did anyone see Steve Smith's (Red Green) mansion in Canada, or his condo in Ft. Meyers, FL where he spends the winters playing golf? Holy Wah! It was shown on ch 13 not that long ago. In my wallet is a Red Green fan club card, 'eh? Don't forget, we're all in this together! Keep your stick on the ice!
