PEWABIC ALL SCHOOL REUNION:

Did you attend the old Pewabic School? If so, on Saturday, August 6, 2005, at the Quincy FireHall, there will be an informal reunion of ALL who attended the school. Right now the goal is to create a guest list of people we can contact about the event. I didn't know if it would be appropriate to post this on the main page. But we had to say goodbye this month to our dear and loyal friend of 16 years, Jasper.

Rest well my friend, you will be missed as you brought a lot of joy and comfort to me and my wife.

I am so sorry that you and your wife lost Jasper. I honestly believe that our pets are like family members, and bring so much richness into our lives...and their parting can be especially hard, because others do not understand this bond, and our sorrow.

Alan, I understand your lose of Jasper. On Friday evening, Jan. 28th we lost our cat, Sargent D. She lived to be 15 years old. We will miss her greatly.

Alan, I do think Jasper belongs on the main page... Dogs are family. We have lost two dogs and I still miss them. Both were with us for a very long time. Now we have Beemer who is only just 3 years old and the joy of our life. Gotta love these little guys...

I don't know where Jasper belongs, but can't help noticing he provoked more condolences than all the people who have passed away on the main page did. Everytime I read an obit of a beloved pet, I think of Arved and Max, two rather large felines of dignity and charakter - unless they were busy battling out who got his food first. But they were animous (tm?) in that of course they were to be fed first - and then the humans!
Actually, I wanted to ask if the Port Huron webcam shows the bridge to Sarnia/CAN in the distance. Anyone know?

Since there is only one bridge up that way, I would sure think it is the Blue Water Bridge. Kinda foggy there at the moment, but sunny down the road in Marine City.

Yes, Danbury. That is the Blue Water Bridge(es). Up until a couple of years ago, there was only one bridge, where eastbound was on one level and westbound was on the other. They have since built an almost duplicate sister bridge right next to it. Now they use them both, to regulate traffic in each direction, shutting some of the levels for maintenance, etc.

And, thanks everyone for the condolences on Jasper. They are greatly appreciated.

Dear Alan, Where ever Jasper belongs--on the main page or this one--he truly belongs in your heart. Have lost four myself over the years.

Took a little ride to Sedar Bay, found a few deer feeding in the feed area. They also seem to be enjoying our mid-winter thaw...

A clue on the suspended barrels?

Roudy, They are deer feeders. Probably filled with shelled corn.

They must have special permission from the DNR. Feeding is illegal. Baiting is legal, but is only allowed a short period of time around hunting season. Maybe the barrels are empty.

I read an e mail here about the Huron Mountain Club, but I can't remember the date. Can anyone else recall the date.....thanks

Thank you, cyn and Alan. I recall a rather exciting ride over the bridge, with heavy traffic in a rather narrow work zone, on our crosscountry trip more than ten years ago. It's kinda fun to find places I've been to like this in the web.

Deer feeding is illegal in most spots, but there are several counties in the UP where it is legal as long as you get the proper permits from the DNR. The UP went through this last year when the DNR banned all supplemental feeding and there was quite an uproar from the residents. The main reason for the supplemental feeding being allowed in the UP is the great amounts of snow that we receive which cause a high rate of winter deer kill. One of the reeasons for banning deer feeding is that it causes TB in the deer, but there have been few incidences of TB, if any, in the UP deer herds.

We said good bye to our dog "Honey" 2 weeks ago today. We took her home from the Humane Society 10 years ago and she had been a very faithful companion ever since. She is gone from this earth but will be in our hearts forever. We miss you Honey.......

A family had a dog whose ghost came back with the sound of his bell thru the living room, going behind the couch--heard by the family & relatives too!!

A COUPLE WOKE UP ONE MORNING & THE WIFE SAID-DO YOU KNOW WHAT DAY THIS IS? HE SAID; AH - SURE I DO--HOW COULD I FORGET. SO THAT AFTERNOON SHE GOT FLOWERS & CHOCOLATES. SHE EXCLAIMED," THANKYOU-THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I EVER GOT THESE FOR GROUND HOG DAY!!

Replies to Friday's What's Up.

Today is a day of great celebration for my family - it's my dad's 80th birthday! Copper Country residents know him as Doc Meier, a man who treated all with the same courtesy, dignity and respect, no matter the circumstance. I only know him as Daddy, and I'm very proud of the man he is and grateful for the freedom (and safety) he gave me to become ther person I am. I love you, Daddy!

Even tho he and my mom finally made the move to Arizona year 'round instead of seasonal, he's still remembered by many in the Keweenaw. Anyone who'd like to send birthday greetings can email Doc at cydoc60@aol.com

Downstate Don: My last verified Fred siting was in 2003. This past summer I did come across a trail marker at Pinnacle Falls commemorating the acquisition of the Pinnacle Falls parcel from Fred and his wife June by the Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve. Last I knew he was still going strong and willing to chat on his favorite topic, dolmans (Breton="stone tables"),with anyone so inclined.

To Dave of Laurium: I live in Sedar Bay just 4˝ miles from M203 (Pine Street) right on the lake. On Cedar Hill Road (across from Sarkela Road junction) are three deer feeding places and it's interesting to see the numbers of deer grazing in the designated spots. I have some deer visitors which I can see from my upstairs bathroom window eating the goodies I leave for them and other critters. The deer love the bird food, especially the oiled sunflower seeds. But my deer don't seem to care for lettuce. I have, however, cut up potatoes and apples which they do like.

Thanks for the great pictures. Sometime when you're in the area, do come for coffee at 485 Birch Lane. A˛

As to the deer, there's some new entries on saturday 01/29's What'sUP. That's the result of long time winter feeding, especially when it's not just here and there, but all over the place. Also, I don't know about the american deer, but depending on their digestive system, whoever does it better check what you're feeding them. Wrong food can do as much damage as no food at all.
