Good morning from San Jose. No snow here, but huge amounts in the Sierra. Two weeks ago one storm dropped as many as nineteen feet!

I'm afraid that Punxsutawney Phil doesn't make it to the U.P. We're good for at least another sixteen weeks before even the black fly season starts.

R Somero CA - Did you say NINETEEN FEET! Was that all at once? I can't even imagine that. I think the most we have seen down here in northern Indiana was back in 1978. I think it was 24 inches in 24 hours and that was enough. Nineteen feet? Holy cow.

We rescued a puppy a couple of years back and it took us a month to come up with the 'perfect name'. We tried all kinds of names on her, so needless to say, to this day, she comes to just about any name ;)

Seems all the snow for the Western mountains is going into California this year (typical for El Nino). Up here in the Pacific Northwest, our mountain ski areas have been SHUT for a while now. No snow up there at all and that's bad news for the skiers, ski resorts and their employees, AND us down here as we won't have that run off for our water supply this summer. Think you'll be hearing about drought conditions for us this year. But, on the flip side, I'm rather enjoying the dry 50's we've had up here the last week or more! Even some of my flowers are beginning to pop out of the ground, if you can imagine!

Yes, that was in one storm. The Sierra has been getting one storm after another. Some friends of mine try to get up to Lake Tahoe every weekend to ski but sometimes the weather warnings keep us away.

Wisconsin, I, too, enjoyed the lesson. My next cat will be "kissa". That's pretty good for an Irishwoman like me. Very interesting language.

When we got out here 25 years ago we thought we knew all about snow and tough winters-wrong! At the higher elevations two feet per hour can come down. Remember the Donner Party disaster. Nineteen feet is a bit much, but it does happen. It's not unusual for storms to dump 4,5,or 6 feet on a regular basis. We have all the big snow removal equipment that the CC is using plus some. All of this fun is only 5 hours away from us. I prefer to drive to it when I want to play than to live in it.

Women's team lost big, men's team won big. Both were against Lake Superior State. Both women's teams were undefeated (9-0)in conference play.

The hockey team lost tonight, too. I turned the video off in the third period when it got to 5-1. #1 rated Colorado College is a good team. Tech played them even thru two periods last night, but only one tonight.

Sur5er....Okay, you've peaked my curiosity...just what was the perfect name for your puppy? And what kind of puppy...besides sweet, that is. If you do sun bathing today you need to watch the shadows cast by your goosebumps....they can make for very interesting tan patterns!

At first,daughter wanted to name the puppy 'Hailey'....but it sounded too much like my companion dog's name (Bailey)...and caused confusion with both the doggies. Then hubby came up with this bright idea of naming the puppy 'Barnum"..you know Barnum and Bailey.

Told hubby that there was no way I was going to be hollering for a 'Barnum' when she went 'touring' around the neighborhood. So, for a couple of weeks, the puppy was just called, 'the baby'...as we searched for the perfect name.

One evening, my step daughter was outside playing with 'Baby' when she came running inside all excited. "I have the perfect name for Baby! Abbi Mae!" She had simply removed the 'B' from Baby. Pretty neat, eh.

Now tell me she doesn't look like an Abbi...she is so precious. The previous owners had abused her and we rescued her just minutes from her being taken to the pound.

Aaaaah yes, the over population of the deer. We must be the only national park that has 'do not feed the deer' signs, because the tourists will actually get out of their cars and try to hand feed the deer. Hullo...wild animals...especially dangerous during rutting season.

There are no natural prediators to the deer in these parts, so they are more common out here than dogs. Unfortunately, the land cannot support all the deer, so occassionally the state has to do cullings.

City folk do not understand the need to thin the herds..or the effects of a hard winter on starving deer. So usually, as soon as they hear of a culling, the advocates come out of the woodwork. Sigh.
