Aaaaah yes, the over population of the deer. We must be the only national park that has 'do not feed the deer' signs, because the tourists will actually get out of their cars and try to hand feed the deer. Hullo...wild animals...especially dangerous during rutting season.
There are no natural prediators to the deer in these parts, so they are more common out here than dogs. Unfortunately, the land cannot support all the deer, so occassionally the state has to do cullings.
City folk do not understand the need to thin the herds..or the effects of a hard winter on starving deer. So usually, as soon as they hear of a culling, the advocates come out of the woodwork. Sigh.
