Good Morning. The picture is gorgeous. We'd like to help you out at Still Waters. Tell us who to make the checks out to.

By maijaMI on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 08:39 am:

Charlie: please accept everyone's generous offer to donate to Still Waters. I know you may think there are ethical questions, but we are all sincere. Little bits can make big differences.

By maijaMI on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 08:56 am:

Wow! The poor farm page was fascinating!

By Charlie Hopper, Eagle River, MI on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 09:05 am:

Thanks, Maija and everyone, for the willingness to help with the need at Still Waters. There is an online secure form where tax-deductible donations may be directed. Or, in response to Karen's note, the mailing address is:

Still Waters Assisted Living Community
26096 Elm Street
Calumet, MI 49913

Maybe next week we can discuss a little more of the issues currently facing the Home, which, by the way, celebrates 50 years of service this year - from 1945 to 1982 as Laurium Elders Home, then from '82 to the present as Still Waters.

Thanks for the address/website link Charlie. My donation is on it's way.

It's a balmy 8 degrees out this morning...finally winter is here. Why is it that the folks in Indiana don't like the cold weather? No one has been outside since Thursday, because the temps dropped into the teens.

I went to the fabric store in town here...and I was the only customer. I had social hour with the woman who cut my fabric and the cashier. They told me that they called the store in Michigan City and it was packed...with what else...but all the hearty Michiganers.

I think I'll do a barbeque outside in this balmy weather this afternoon :) Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Its about 15° here this morning and clear. I love it. When one of our local weathermen were describing the change from the 50's this past week to the teens & twenties expected this coming week he used the phrase "unseasonably cold". Get a clue, people. ITS WINTER! ITS NORTHWEST OHIO! 20° is NOT unseasonable cold, its NORMAL!!! I get so mad at all the complaining about the cold. Bundle up and enjoy it! If you don't like winter - Move to Florida! I feel so good on clear crisp days like today. So much better than 80° with 95% humidity! Now I'll get off my soapbox.

This picture was sent to me by Greg Wilber, from Yorktown, VA...he says it was taken Thursday evening there and even though it's not of the U.P., I thought on such a bitter cold day, it might warm a few of us up! :->

Virginia sunset
Thanks, Greg!

It was nice to get the picture from Nate on the cam notes.

He and other servicemen and women are due our support for the sacrifices that they make on a daily basis.

Thank you Nate and to all our men/women in the military.

Dale

Enjoyed Mary from NW Ohio's comment about peoples' inability to accept winter for what it is. I, too, feel infinitely better when it's cold and dry outside. This winter phobia seems to be a national phenomenon; here in the east the TV news people become hysterical whenever the temperature falls below 40 degrees. They don't get that excited over REAL news.

rcw, where you been? been waiting for you!!!

By Budone Eastmanville, MI on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 04:10 pm:

Whats up with the Bridgecam??

The 4:29pm image is a zoomed in picture of treetops and a lightpole?????

I'd would post it if I could figure out how.....

By sur5er, Indiana on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 04:18 pm:

Mary from Ohio, I hear you about people complaining about the cold weather in the winter. Hullo, it's winter. I am like you, the colder it gets, the better I feel...in fact, I think I thrive on the cold weather.

Hubby drove through your neck of the woods in northern Ohio (he's a truck driver),and he said he could not get over all the rain you folks were hit with. He said he drove through rain all the way through Ohio and Pennsylvania. Hope you enjoy this cold spell we are sending you from Indiana...it is heaven. Hubby and I were out playing in the below zero temps this morning with our dogs. Am so tempted to do a campfire tonight.

Nate, thanks for keeping us safe.

By maijaMi on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 04:30 pm:

ditto on loving true winter.

By Karen...Clearwater on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 04:39 pm:

Okay everyone. It is time to do the right thing. We need to support Still Waters and help them get back on their feet. See Charlie's response above........my check is in the mail and I hope many of you out there will follow suit.

Yes Charlie, we would like you to express the needs. We all appreciate the Pasty site and what you are doing for Still Waters. We know it's not an easy job.

By Susan, Fl on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 11:27 pm:

Okay, mine isn't in the mail yet...but will be on Monday....let's see what kind of a dent we can make in that nasty old mortgage! Reminds me of my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Duckering, who used to tell how she would daydream about every girl in her class giving her just one dress (they didn't have much money)....they wouldn't miss just one, and boy, would she have a lot of clothes! Let's dress up Still Waters! :)

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Sunday, January 16, 2005 - 12:20 am:

While you are making those checks to Still Waters and your checkbooks are out, won't you please think about the victims of the Tsunami, who are in desperate need of your help.

By Dave IL on Sunday, January 16, 2005 - 11:46 am:

Already did that. For me it's while I've got it out, help Charlie light a fire under that mortgage, or at least trim it some!

Take care of our own.....
