Yesterday I read a very interesting article "Crazy For Winter" by Berit Thorkelson & John Noltner in the January and February issue of the Midwest Magazine, that included Laurium and Tonys Pasties and Sauna (Great knees Tony), Bessemer, Marquette, Copper Harbor, Skanee, and John Dee's Lake Linden. Way to go UP!

Bthecute1... is that magazine available around here??

By Larry-IN on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 - 12:44 pm:

Does anyone have info on George Hite?

Website is old and no answer to email..I know he travels for the holiday sometimes, but I just worry about him when there is a prolonged absence.

Any Eagle Harbor folk with info? {of the 15 there this time of year :)}

What a great picture today! Reminds me of my dad. I think riding his John Deer is one of his favorite past times.....but that could be because it gets him out of the house and away from my mom! : ) Thanks for bringing a smile to my face!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIRIAM in Bessmer. Are you back from R.O. yet? Hope you have a great birthday.

Audrey: I have found that the Midwest Living Magazine is far better than the west coast Sunset magazine. Enjoy! :)

Bthecute1... Thanks for the info. I called a few bookstores and they don't carry it. Then I called Midwest Living magazine, and they can mail me a single copy but they said it will take 3-6 weeks! So I just emailed a friend who lives in Nebraska and asked her to see if she can find it, and if she does she'll mail it to me. Funny.

Gray and rainy here in Lodi.
What I wouldn't give for a little of the white stuff. Happy New Year Bthecute1, How have you been?

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 - 09:22 pm:

I agree with the girls. I love Midwest Living.

Hi Kevin, have missed your postings. I am slowly getting better and hope to be walking on my own without a cane real soon. I tried to mail you around Thanksgiving time but the mail came back. I hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Glad your back. :) Beverly

It is snowing in eastern Iowa...and all those with snow machines are starting their engines! Can't you just hear that roar??

Someone from Midwest Living loves the U.P. as they have been featuring the joys of Copper Country for several years. I've planned so many trips up there using the magazine as a guide. They also publish a supplement in April , Michigan Travel Guide which focuses on events and great food of the area.

Is there a prize for last post of the day? We night owls deserve something!

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 06:27 am:

Pasty Central is very grateful to Midwest Living Magazine as well. Several years ago their editors printed a nice write-up about pasties, and how to order from Pasty Central. The article hit the newsstands right before Christmas, in time to cause quite a flurry of gift orders. Hundreds of those Midwest Living readers have continued to order year after year, which continues to keep our pasty makers busy!

By SDC, Ferndale, MI on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 10:26 am:

Hopefully, one of our local merchants in Royal Oak found the Jampot advertisment (and other jam advertisments) on pasty.com homepage. He was looking to sell thimbleberry jam and other wonderful jams from the U.P. My hubby and I told him about pasty.com. Next time we visit his cute little store, I'm hoping he'll have some of our favorite U.P. jams....yum!

By BE, AZ formerly R.O./Mohawk on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 12:27 am:

SDC, Glad to hear that. Is it the Holiday Market? Hope to get some of the U.P. jams too.

By SDC, Ferndale, MI on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 11:19 am:

BE, AZ formerly R.O./Mohawk:
Its a new little store on 4th street in Royal Oak called Cranberry Jam or something like that. They use to be on 11 mile Road across from the R.O. post office but moved to this new "user friendly" location. Very nice store, they also have the old fashion candy and carry boutique items too. We will check back in another month to see if he got the jams from the U.P.-- Yum!
Too bad he can't carry pasties from up yonder. I'll just have to go to Barb's Pasties in Clawson.

By BE, AZ on Friday, January 7, 2005 - 02:47 am:

SDC, thank you for the info. I grew up in R.O. and mom still lives on 5th St. So when we go there in May I hope they have the jams from up home. I will look for the store. You are right, it would be good if he had some of Charlies pasties. Maybe Charlie should look into it. :-)
When we don't have homemade pasties, we go to Weldons. We like theirs better. Thank you again.
