What do we have, 4 or 5 days till winter starts? Then the days start getting longer also!! Hooray!
Nice picture!

Erica, I'm with you...still lots of things to do, especially since I am sewing most of my Christmas gifts. And then next week, I'll start on making Christmas cookies.

Been trying to figure out a gag gift for hubby. And now that the snow is falling and he is constantly talking about, "I can't wait until we move to the UP", I think I have come up with the solution: a Forever Pasty, that will last forever. Heck, maybe I'll glue some eyes on it, and call it his Pet Pasty. ;)

Salt Dough Recipe:
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
1 Cup Water

Mix ingredients together, and knead until soft.
Roll dough out, to make a pie shell. Fold dough over, and fill inside of pie shell/pasty with crumbled foil. Seal/crimp edges. Brush top of 'pasty' with a mixture of instant coffee and water (about 2 tablespoons to 1/3 cup of water). Bake in warm oven (about 200 degrees) until dough is cooked/hard...about 2 hours. Flip 'pasty' over...brush with coffee/water mixture, and cook until dry. After 'pasty' has cooled, spray with a coat of clear matte paint.

Pauwebbtroll, thanks for the reminder, I always do the "happy dance" to welcome back longer daylight.
Sur5er, thanks for the great "craft" idea. I have been looking for a way to make llama ornaments and bet this "dough" might work for that also.
SW Michigan is having winter this year and almost looks like the beautiful pic on cam notes today. Happy holiday prep to all!!!

Sur5er,
You are such a dandy gal. What a great idea! I think I am going to do this over the weekend. I thank you for the idea.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Friday, December 16, 2005 - 08:05 pm:

Sur5er...don't make that "pasty" too real lookin' or hubby may be tempted to take a bite out of it, esp. if he's a little tired out on the road.LOL I bet if we could bottle the aroma of baking pasties, we'd out-sell 'ol Elizabeth's "White Diamonds" eh? :>

A neighbor down here has asked me about the Huron Mountain Club. I assume it is in the Huron Mts. Is it a private club? Who belongs to it? Anyone able to give me any info I can pass on to my neighbor?

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Friday, December 16, 2005 - 09:40 pm:

Try this link from a few years ago. There was a lot of discussion about the Huron Mountain Club.

JH,thankyou for the link. Very interesting reading. The area must be truly beautiful. I am grateful we have access to the rest of the UP because it is one of my favorite places and, perhaps, someday the Huron Mtn. Club may become a national park open to all.

By Downstatedon (Downstatedon) on Friday, December 16, 2005 - 10:49 pm:

I worked at the Huron Mountain Club in the summer
of l967. At that time Fred Rydholm worked there
also. It was a private club owned by the wealthy.
The place was protected by armed guards. No autos
were permitted past the gate. Only security were
allowed vehicles. The lakes were stocked with fish. Members had their own individual cabins and
there was a clubhouse were the meals were prepared. Working there was a great experience.

Llamamama, let me know how the llama ornaments turn out...they sound neat.
Erica and Lorelei, thanks for the compliment. This dough recipe is also great for making 'cherry pies'. Make two pie crusts from the dough...put bottom crust in pie pan and then make a triangle cut in the dough, (as if a peice of pie has been cut). Add crumbled foil to about half of the pie pan. Then with another ball of dough, make 'cherries', by making small balls, the size of cherries..and then putting a small hole in the center of the 'cherry'. Place the dough cherries in the pie. Cut a piece out of the top crust...and place over pie. Seal/crimp edges of pie. Brush pie crust with coffee/water mixture and bake in 200 degree oven for a couple of hours. When cool, paint 'cherries' with Cherry Red paint, and then spray paint entire 'pie' with clear matte paint.

Ms. Katie, we need to get you a job with Glade :) Hey, Pasty scented candles would definately work, also, eh.
