Good Morning on a beautiful sunny Monday in SE lower Michigan.

Good morning from the Florida Keys. A little cooler than is usual today but a welcome change---still bright and sunny.

Looks like the lake effect snow machine is working overtime today. Can't see across the harbor on Sharon's cam.

Brrrr! Looking at the Blast from the Past of divers in the wintry lake reminds me of the story a friend told about her husband Pat. He and another diver went into Lake Michigan under the ice and lost the hole. They were on the verge of asphyxiating before they found it again. I like to stay on top of the water, thank you! The oxygen is much more breathable there.

Mornin.

Early this morning there was a fire at the Mather Nursing Home in Ispheming that killed two people. The cause has not been determined yet. Many were treated at the hospitalsfor smoke inhalation & Westwood High School was closed to use for some of those taken from the nursing home. How horrible! It was on the national news this morning. I also just read about the fire in the Daily Mining Gazette, and agree that it really is terrible. When things like this happen in the UP, it really reminds us of how small our section of the state really is. It is good that the school was willing to help out as they could for the survivors. My thoughts are with these neighbors and their families.

The fire was on the national news this morning, scrolled on the bottom of the screen during Good Morning America.

I was so saddened to here of the fire in Ispheming today. My thoughts go with the families who have lost a loved one.

Someone asked a while back if there was a place in the Calumet area to take their kids to see reindeer, I don't know if the question was answered, but Antler Acres about a mile north of Calumet in the Mayflower area has them. They are owned by Marty Olgren.
