Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 06:35 am:

Misty Bond starts our week off with a winter sunrise on her way to work. Looks like the horizon is just starting to awaken with coloring from blues to pinks slowly making their way into the skies. A nice, gradual progression, symbolizing the way all Mondays should begin... gingerly easing us back into the workweek ahead. It's a wonder Misty can make it to work at all with the beautiful sights along the route from Houghton to Baraga each day!

By Smfwixom (Trollperson) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 06:42 am:

Such a pretty sight - wish I had a view like this for my drive to work in trollland.

By lz (Llamamama) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 07:13 am:

Beautiful picture today!

By Helen Milan (Hmilan) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 07:20 am:

Greetings from the South side of Chicago where it is 1 degree above this morning. Thanks for allowing all of us to get UP to that beautiful sunrise. Have a wonderful day.

By Debra J McCumber (Debrajean) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 08:26 am:

Another beautiful picture of the U.P. again this morning. Sigh....if only I were right there, right now. Have a wonderful day everyone (and good morning sweetie!)

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 09:14 am:

Beautiful; it is not that way here this am.

By Shelley Trowbridge (Shelleyt36) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 09:25 am:

I sure wish I could see that sight any day of the week! Wishing everyone a joyous week!

By Pete Wilberding (Peshtigopete) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 09:46 am:

Margaret I hear you've had a nasty ice storm in Amarillo eh.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 10:02 am:

Oh Pete! It is nasty. Any snowbirds heading south better get another route. It is very bad here.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 10:45 am:

Great shot. The snow has been coming down
continuously this month, we spent all day saturday
removing snow from roofs etc Here's some shots

https://pasty.com/pcam/albuw45

and by saturday night looked as if we sat on the couch all day and did nothing ;-)

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 11:13 am:

very pretty pic!

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 11:19 am:

Bob G. thanks for views of your struggles. Rather frustrating is it?. I picture your yard as the yard of grandpa and grandma Slattery's, in Hubble of the 40's and 50's. But I only knew it in the summer when we went up to visit from Milwaukee. I don't know the name of the street, it ran up a pretty good hill. I'm sure when I get up there hopefully next summer, that the street will look much different to me as a grown-up. I remember going down hill a house or two then taking a right turn to go to the downtown area to the post office. If I went all the way down hill on their street it went past some pretty good sized homes and I think on down toward the mill/smelter where grandpa worked for 50 years. Does any of this sound familiar? If you went further up-hill I think it went out of town. But it seems to me my mom talked about something further on, like a settlement or something with a regular name. Woow- a mystery from a childs memory. Have a good one today everyone.

Beautiful pic Misty :) How tranquil...I can picture myself standing by the rail, and taking in this beautiful sight.

Bobq: Hubby enjoyed your pics of the snowfall. Thanks ;) He couldn't believe that you folks had to shovel the roof already. "Don't they do that sometime in January? Wow!"

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 11:32 am:

Bobq: OMG...it must be a thing with men and machines...hubby is now drooling over your snow blower, "Hon, check this out..it even has a plow on the front end of it. You know, when we move up there, I have to get me one like that."

By Marc Slis (Marc) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 11:34 am:

Thats a beautiful shot. It reminds me of the morning drive to work at the KBIC Hatchery in Pequaming, from Painesdale. The sunrises were always a treat. Funny, my commute to work is now 12,500 miles and takes 2 1/2 days and I didn't see a single sunrise.

By Mel, Kansas (Mehollop) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 11:45 am:

Amazingly, we had 6-8" of the fluffy stuff on Saturday - finally stopped about midday Sunday. Nothing compared to what you folks up in the UP have been getting, but quite a bit for here. Only the 'bravest of souls' showed up at the office Christmas party Saturday evening (even though we didn't think the roads were too bad... 6 yooper winters will do that to a person). Temps hung around 20 Sat & Sun, but were buried at -1 F this morning! Very chilly morning, and took a bit of rocking to break the car loose from the icicles.

So happy to see it white, rather than brown and gray!

By stix (Stixoutwest) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 12:03 pm:

Great pic. The web-cams show a gorgeous day in the UP today. Love being able to follow what it looks like! Nothing prettier than a sunny UP day after a ton of snow! Have a good one.

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 01:10 pm:

That's the second time in a week you've had my favorite color on your daily pix! In four days I get to see the 'skyblue-pink' over the lake in person. Wishing everyone a warm winter and new year.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 03:09 pm:

Katie, the only hill that would go up and out of town would be lakeview. Going down lakeview deadends right where the smoke stack from the smelter used to stand. I'm two streets north of that one.

We have just sent for experts to try and Identify the strange orange ball in the sky today, it is realy bright and generates heat.

Also there is a strange blue color in the sky that we don't know what is causing that either, plese if you know why this is happening let us know ;-)

By lz (Llamamama) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 03:23 pm:

Bobq, that strange phenomenon is occurring in the skies over SW Michigan! Unusual, but strangely pleasant. ;)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 03:37 pm:

Bobg and Llamamama, OMG, we are experiencing the same strange phenomenon here, in IN. I wasn't going to mention it to anyone, but since you both brought it up...
Whatever it is, the dogs seem to enjoy going outside and basking in its brightness.

By Theresa, Colorado. (Theresa) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 04:18 pm:

Woke up to a very slight trace of snow... Wow I thought maybe just maybe we will have a white Christmas.. By 9:00 a.m. all was gone. Bobg where are the pictures from in Hubbell... I grew up in Hubbell. Was E street but is now 12th st. Right up from where THe Loading Zone used to be...I still miss home home especially now that Mom and Dad are both gone... We came home often... The pictures are really great. Thanks Bob...

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 05:52 pm:

Richard,

Skyblue pink is my favorite color too. I've only
heard one other person use that term
before--an author of a children's book that I
read when I was many moons younger.

It sure is a dandy photograph. I wish it were
my commute too...but this time next week I'll
be in the UP. Yeah!

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 09:58 pm:

Thanks Bobg, it kinda sounds right...lakeview. I'm usually very good on directions and don't get lost very easily. But I was shocked when mom told me as an adult that Lakeview doesn't go north & south like I imagined!:> And gee that photo is a wonderful early morning glimps of near heaven ainta'?

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - 10:28 pm:

mskatie, I grew up in Hubbell in the forties and fifties and my dad worked with your grandfather at the mill. When you go to Hubbell look up my sister Mary DuTemple and she can tell you where your grandfathers home was. She still lives in Hubbell and has a phenomenall memory.
