Cold temperatures have kept the icy coatings on the shoreline from melting away. Of course the winds slapping the waves over everything in sight plays a role in getting and keeping everything iced. So a venture out along Lake Superior's shoreline takes a brave soul like, Joyce Tormala who headed out with biting winds and dropping temps in order to snap some chilling photos. The Big Lake provides quite an array of icy spectacles this time of year, like this thick winter coating over a good size boulder. It'll be awhile before the face of that rock is seen again. The icy curtain of branches may not last as long though, once the wind gets them to flapping against each other!

A giant squid in the first pic?

By Therese (Therese) on Monday, December 12, 2005 - 09:49 am:

More like a lobster.

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Monday, December 12, 2005 - 09:51 am:

Those icy pics sure make a person feel cold, don't they? But I
also notice there is not much snow in the pics. I hear from
family in Esky that they have no snow at all in that area.
Meanwhile, here in SE Michigan and all along the "rugged" Lake
Eriecoast from Toledo to Buffalo, we have more than we want of
the stuff. Do you suppose we downstaters are going to have to
invite Yoopers who like to frolic in the snow to come down here
this Xmas? Hopefully, by then things will be back to normal, but
they are a little different right now for sure.

Charles in Adrian,
Lots of snow here in the Copper Country and more on the way this week. For the first time ever in the month of December, my hubby shoveled the garage roof. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Great shots as usual Joyce.

I just saw the link to the new 2006 calendar
this morning and I wanted to say thanks to everyone.

To have a photo voted on amongst the thousands of great shots posted here by everyone onto the Calender is fantastic.

To have one of my shots make the Cover is just fantastic.

Thanks to everyone, keep clicking and posting.

A special thanks to Don DeYampert for his suggestions and help a couple years ago when I was looking for a new camera. ;-)

Sea monster? Lobster? I thought a sea lion. Whatever it is, it's frozen in place right now.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Monday, December 12, 2005 - 11:18 am:

Bob: Where is the link you mentioned for the new calendar? I couldn't find it.

You can find the info for ordering the Calendar here: 2006 Pasty Cam Calendar. They'd make wonderful accompanying gifts to an order of delicious U.P. Pasties! No added shipping charge when ordered with your pasty order, either!

Hello from Mishawaka IN. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in. For some reason or other the first picture makes me think of a walrus. Thats the first thing that came into my mind when I saw it.

By Margo (Margo) on Monday, December 12, 2005 - 05:32 pm:

I have to agree with NKR. That was my first thought too. Must be the coloor of the ice.

By Margo (Margo) on Monday, December 12, 2005 - 05:34 pm:
