Living in the Upper Peninsula you'll find a few unique things to do when it comes to entertaining yourself in the snow and cold. Gather up the family, call a few friends to join you, bundle up against the cold, then climb on board with Lester Dukart and Bev Holzberger from the Lazy K Ranch in Lake Linden. It's a horse drawn wagon ride and I can't think of a better way to take a ride around town and check out the Christmas decorations popping up all over. Don't forget a nice warm blanket to warm your outsides and a thermos of hot chocolate to toast your insides!

Hello and morning!!!

Very nice pictures and beautiful winterday!

How I'd love to take that ride. Beautiful horses and "sleigh", the folks next to them aren't bad either. The blue norther came through last night; it's 15 here this morning.

Some years ago I was blessed to go on such a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the countryside out that way with a church group one wintery evening. It was delightful and memorable. We sang carols, stopped for hot chocolate on that snowy country road, and the northern lights danced in the sky. Can't get much closer to heaven.....

Oh those loving, easy going, gentle Belgiums! They love their jobs!

Oh my gosh, what I wouldn't give to be on one of those hay rides :) Now that the snow is falling, hubby is getting more and more homesick for the UP each day. Last night, while I was riding with him in his semi, to pick up his load, he remarked, "instead of renting one of those UHauls, when we move, how 'bout I rent a semi?" Seems like I'm not the only one getting antsy to head to da UP, eh. :)

What a wonderful way to spend a snowy afternoon! I wish that we had something like that around here! The more I hear about the unique things that you all do up there, the more it makes me want to live up there!! The hubby has 14 more years to retirement and I'm sure that's where we'll be heading!

Somewhere I have a picture of our Calument Girl Scout Troop riding on haybales in the really early '60s. Haven't a clue who drove us. Good Memory!

Shelly, Hubby's dream is to retire from truck driving at 50...move to Da UP...and work in the non driving aspect of trucking. He says that it is this dream that gets him through his hard work weeks...and all that traffic ;)

Do they ever replace those wheels with "runners"? Seems like they could do it. The snow this year reminds me of 1977. Hope it continues-- light and fluffy with the temp. between 20-25. Ideal.

That is My Dad; Lester Dukart, and My Aunt; Bev Holzberger! Whew, sure looks cold, glad I am here in the much warmer city of Richmond, Virginia!
