Our thanks to all who have participated in the "Toys for Kids" program of the Keweenaw County Sheriff's office. Today is the final day we will have the donation form available, if you would like to join the effort.

Mornin' looks like the dog is having as much fun as the residents.

Taking your pet to visit a care facility is so rewarding! I would take our Doberman Pinscher to visit my mom and there was a couple living there from Germany who adored Lucky because when they lived in Germany they bred and raised Dobies, so for them, many wonderful memories were brought back at our visits.

Therapy pets offer many wonderful benefits to those in a variety of facilities. For those fortunate enough to have an animal with the appropriate personality for such work please consider volunteering when possible. Non-profit organizations such as Delta Society can assist you if you are looking for formal training. Imagine the visitor’s room at an elder care facility with two dogs, a cat, and a llama! Oh, the conversation and interaction they generated. The reward is unbelievable.

A NOTE OF CAUTION;I received a phone call about 10 minutes ago from someone calling themselves Card Services. [definately a scam] They were offering to lower the interest rate on my credit card balance, all that I had to do is give them all of my credit card information? When I questioned them they hung up on me. They sounded legitimate and convincing. A good rule of thumb is: don't give ANY information whenever someone calls you, when they call you then you don't have any idea in the world who you're talking to.

Great Info Dave!!! Tis the season for scams!!!In fact I am getting one now as we speak..."toll free service!~!!as My mom used to say..."Everybody Wants My Money!!!" Everyone have a good week, Going to take the grandkids to see Santa Saturday. We have such a great time and they promised me there would be ALL SMILES this year, ages, 8,5 and 3. Just sorry I cannot enjoy this with DJ,Margie and boys, They are 7 and almost 2. Good Evening #1 Son!!!

Another way to avoid these type of calls, is to place yourself on your state's 'do not call list', as scammers obtain names/phone numbers the same way as phone solicitors do, through lists they purchase from companies who sell your information. Simply visit your state attorney general's website, for information on registering for the 'do not call list'.
If you receive a suspicious phone call, such as this one, don't forget to report it to the detective bureau with your local police department, so they can alert others. Generally, when a police department is alerted to this type of scam, they will post it in the newspaper the following day. If you have a phone number from the suspicious call, you can always file a complaint with the consumer's division, of your attorney general's office.

Some businesses are even asking for you're social security number so that they can put them on a list and sell them. No one other than you're employer, financial institution, or state or federal agency needs to have you're social security number for any reason; that's personal, confidential information.

Daveofmohawk, Speaking of social security numbers, can you believe that some states use a person's social security number, as their driver's license number? Yikes.
