• Veteran's Day-What'sUP November 11 - 07:35 pm

Today's pictures from Steve Brimm and Brian and Shawn Malone, respectively, are representative of the conditions found on Lake Superior during the high winds we experienced here in the Keweenaw over the last couple days. I didn't get to see her in action myself, but from what I understand there were quite a few who took a drive to watch the Big Lake rock and roll.

Just a reminder that today is Veteran's Day, so please remember to thank a Vet for all they've done to preserve our freedoms. Fly your flag as a visible Thank you!

Great pictures. That makes me think of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Our local news paper just had an artical about the 30 years yesterday. Well anyway have a great day everyone.

Good Morning everyone. Nice pictures of the big lake but sure looks scary! Our flag is usually up until Veterans Day passes then taken down for the winter.

I'm helping to lead the Remembrance Day
event at my school today. However, we'll be
singing "God Save the Queen" and "O
Canada." I'll be thinking the words to "My
Country Tis of Thee" while the others are
singing for the Queen. I will have a small
book display out in the auditorium about some
of the U.S. vets I've known.

I will be remembering Daniel Schmidt, a high
school friend and Philip Onkalo, a summer
buddy from my childhood, when I talk about
the Vietnam War Memorial--a beautiful, but
devastating place to visit.

The day will end on a happy note when our
soldier boy comings winging into the airport
this afternoon.

What a show of raw power! The color that is shown in these waves is really incredible. The lake,deadly and beautiful,can be best described as awesome.Remember to fly a flag today if you have one!

And Happy Birthday to me! Watched the Edmund Fitzgerald ceremony on the internet last night and got to see our Pasty Cam friend, Cheryl Rozman, tolling the bell for her dad. A very moving ceremony. Beautiful pictures above!

A heartfelt thank you to all those who've reminded us that freedom isn't free.

All those messages in rememberance of our veterans, and the ones who've struggled for our liberty, our right to breath free...it makes me really touched. Even if I don't live in the States, my heart beats for the USA. May God bless America forever.

It fits in perfectly also today! Thanks to all who are struggling in the battles for the liberty and humans' rights. My thoughts go specially to my old schoolmate Steven Gorski, who's now in Iraq. May God take care of him.

Wow!!! The big lake during a strom was always scary!! Mother nature at her best.

We used to drive to the lighthouse at the Coast Guard Station near McLain just to watch the Big Lake in action in November. She never disappointed.

Happy Veterans Day. I served from 28Sept70 until 01April72........but who is holding grudge?

I meet so many vets who volunteered to avoid the draft. I never understood that concept. They drafted me at 24 1/2 with a Tech degree and it was a life changer. Community service for everybody might be a lot more fair....

I am still listing from Wednesday's lake experience. Though I tried,I was unable to spend more than a few quick minutes fighting the wind. We didn't have to go to Florida or Californy to get some sand in our shoes,for sure! As these pictures show,there is always beauty.
We lost power around 11:00 AM. I took a skip to the lake and found the POWER!!! Shortly after 11:00 PM the wonderful hum of electricity filled the home with music. We take so much for granted,but freedom? Never! THANK YOU,VETERANS!

The pictures are incredible today. Just like our Pacific Coast.

I usually photograph surfers in the Mqt area, but I was in the Keweenaw for this storm. I would venture to say the winds were too strong to be able to stand on a board at the height of the storm. I went out the next day, usually the best for surfing, and the waves were too small already. Maybe in some bays not facing north or west, there may have been some.

A friend of mine used to surf in Marquette, I'm
not much of a swimmer so I would never get out there. Great pics.

I felt like the guys on the weather channel trying to just stand and not get blown over,(you know how silly they look) quickly learning to find
sheltered areas to try to get some pics, was darn near impossible with all the wind and spray. Couldn't get the shots I wanted in most cases because the wind and spray were just too much. This storm was relentless.
