Hi everyone
I have a person here from Norway looking for his
Johnson family that emigrated here. The original name was Kentta.
The children were John Peter, Erick, Salamon, Isaac, Carl/Charles, Fred/Fredrick and Michael/Mikel.
I did find some in our local census for Houghton county. If you have this family name he is anxious to find any living relatives and is here until Thursday . You can contact me

Japei... you are a mystery to me. I do not know if you are young or old, man or woman. But you have wonderful photos. Funny how a face ,a tree, snow or cats and kittens are all alike around the world! Have a good day from Ms. Katie

JapeI is a young married man with one child already grown. Very, very sweet and friendly, as is his wife, and as his posts show.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 03:13 pm:

I was born and raised in Detroit and still live in the Motown area. I'm only a visitor to the beautiful Keweenaw, so it is absolutely AMZANIG to me how homesick JapeI's pictures from Finland make me feel!

Our roots go deep, hey?

Is there any truth to the rumors that precious metals are buried near or around Houghton Falls between Lake Linden and Laurium ? The property owner caught a couple guys last year with a backhoe digging. Also, they found augers and diving rods nearby and signs of persons digging.

I am looking for a recipe for cudigi with venison or other wild game. Also, is there a place that may sell and ship it frozen? I want to make my own for friends down here so they can experience the taste and aroma of it cooking!! I love it and want to make some for deer camp down below!
Thanks a bunch for any info!!!
Mark

hi, it's an italian so-so spicy sausage. It's pronouced "cooh-dah-geee". Even "Da Yooper's" sing about it in their songs. Even ordered it on a pizza once too. I think the finns and swedes made it more famous than the italians. It's a wnoderful and tasty suasage and I like to use it as a burger or even use it in pasta dishes for an added spiced up flavor. I asked on here cuz I can't find anything on the net and I was just up there in Negaunee but my time run short and had no time to look for some. My fault!

Mark,
Here are some recipes for cudighi. The reason you may have not been able to find it, was because there is an 'h', after the 'g'. ;)

Cudighi Recipe (posted on 2005-01-05) Submitted by: David St. Aubin

10# course ground Pork 1/2 tsp. oregano
3 Tbsp. Salt 1 tsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. Black pepper 1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/3 cup red wine
1 tsp. mace

Mix all together very well and package in 1# packages and freeze.
(I use a little more spices of each to get it a little more bite.)
(Can use 5# of venision hamburger and 5# of ground pork.

Cudighi

6 pounds Pork butt
2 tablespoons Salt
1 teaspoon Pepper
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon Allspice
1/2 -1 cups Red wine, dry
6 Garlic cloves
1 Cinnamon stick
1 Clove
Have the pork coarse ground and DO NOT have fat trimmed. Put through the meat grinder TWICE.

Mix the following ingredients together, salt, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and Allspice. Work into ground pork with your hands.

Combine wine, cinnamon sticks, garlic and cloves. Boil this mixture for 5 minutes and let completely cool.

Strain this mixture, reserving the liquid and work the liquid into the meat.

Let meat season in refrigeratorfor 2-3 days.

I am still curious of an answer. It was on the Sladek's property.

Is there any truth to the rumors that precious metals are buried near or around Houghton Falls between Lake Linden and Laurium ? The property owner caught a couple guys last year with a backhoe digging. Also, they found augers and diving rods nearby and signs of persons digging.

My wife's mother is from the Trimountian area from what she knows. The last name was Gagne I think and the first name was Cecilia, she was born in 1906 or around that time. Where would you look for info on her? Thanks for any help.
