Reaping the benefits of a walk in the park is sometimes two-fold in its rewards. Of course you get the boost from the exercise portion of the trek, but the sights you'll see along your way are prizes all their own. This colorful lineup of trees greet you upon entering the Lake Linden RV campground, along with the warning that there's NO HUNTING and a reminder to take your time! The pair of geese in the second shot must have taken note of the sign and decided this would be a good place to take a break before heading south. Actually they're safer staying around the U.P. for another two weeks, since goose season is over UP here and just beginning in the Lower Peninsula. I'm not quite sure what type of goose that white one is, but it seems to have found a traveling partner for its journey southward.
Correction on the goose season date: Due to a typo on the DNR site, I listed the season as already over here in the U.P., when it actually ends on Oct. 21st. Hope I didn't inconvenience anyone with that slip-up! Thanks John for straightening things out. :->

Our congratulations to Dennis Bastian of Lake Linden Avenue in Laurium, the winner of the Quilt Raffle by Sandstone Piece Makers, a benefit project for Still Waters in Calumet. And many thanks to the ladies who made the fund raiser possible, and to all who participated. After all these years Still Waters continues to provide caring assisted living for seniors in the U.P., regardless of income. The support of everyone in our Pasty Central online community helps make this possible, and is much appreciated.

As for the picture: I thought Grey Goose was a just silly name for a brand of vodka, now I see there is such an animal.

Ah-huh! Now those are the geese I was talking about yesterday. You don't suppose the first picture is fenced to keep the birds out? Silly! They can fly.............

Did you know that when geese are flying they are referred to as a flock, while on the ground they are called a gaggle. Then when you rub their bellies you have a giggling gaggle of geese.

I would say the Canadian's travelling partner is a Snow Goose. They tend to have a more muted, nasal honk than the Canadian geese...

I think it's cute. :)

Love the colors

The dark colored goose on the right is a Canada Goose, not a Canadian like most people around here call them. Just thought I'd straighten things out, picky, picky hei.

When I used to live in Lake Linden during my "first" Tech years, I took my dog for many a long walk in the park. She liked to wade around in Torch Lake but I always had to be careful not to let her stroll out too far; one wrong step and your in 50ft of water!! I also used to fish in the ponds right behind the park in the spring for carp. Never ate the things, but they sure were fun to catch.

Trees: I drove up to Copper Harbor yesterday. The most color was on the Trap Rock to Gay and the Cliff Drive roads. Unless there's a strong wind with today's rain I think the color will still be nice next weekend.

Speaking of colors, I spotted some dandy ones this past Sunday, right here in Lake Linden! Check it out....

Leave it to Yooper inginuity to install a parachute onto your dunebuggy in case you miss a sharp turn at the edge of a cliff; now you can gently glide back to earth and avoid that hard landing. Someone oughta patend that!! lol ;-)

That`s a snow goose.The dark color phase of a snow goose is called a blue goose.They are the same species though.
