This hardy fisherman, identified as Terry, doesn't let a little chill and fog stop him from getting out on the water to catch a little dinner. His buddy, Dale Odgers was also out there braving the cool morning air on Torch Lake, but he was doing more than fishing, he was catching some views surrounding the lake. Check out the pink of the rising sun, reflecting on the fog as it recedes around the bend, adding to the beginning colors in the trees - - quite a sight. In checking out the postings for the week, it's apparent that folks are very interested in what the leaves are up to around these parts. So yesterday our weekday Pasty Cam editor, Mary Drew went out and about around Torch Lake herself and snapped the third shot above looking back towards Lake Linden, so we could see what the colors are currently doing. Not quite as far along as it was on the first of October back in '00 - -

Wonderful pics!!The abundant and ever changing of our environment and the natural beauty in our backyard always amazes me. Old trusty rusty(1954 Chevrolet) with its headlights out is ready for another long winter nap, but still appears to be saying,"I'm only in need of restoration". The hues of the leaves and the rainbow of color only adds to the splendor of the season. It surely denotes Michigan's motto.Remember??

-Great photos of the True North... I would just like to comment again that Dale Odgers has my mothers maiden name. I tried to e-mail him but no response. I am just curious because my Grandfather was an only child. Again, wonderful pictures for this beautiful Saturday morn.

Just checking in to see U.P. color updates, and learned of Bill Penprase passing. Over the years Mr. Penprase oftened entertained Pasty Cam visitors with tales of growing up in the Keweenaw. Back in the archives I found this note:

The railroad track from Mohawk starts just behind #6 Mohawk and I believe is now used as a snowmobile trail. Long after Mohawk mines closed the track was used for hauling logs. About once a week the train would go through Copper City and down to Gay. At the place where the creek, flowing out of the #6 dam,went under the tracks there was a watering station for the steam engines. One day a couple of us boys got the spout down and the water gushed out and we couldn't get the spout up again so the tank emptied and washed out some of the track. I only tell you this now because the statue-of-limitation has expired. :)

The pics this week have been really great! The second shot reminds me of one of those old postcards that are hand colored. I hope the folks at pasty cam know how much they are appreciated for providing such a cool service.

How I wish I could make it up there this fall to see the color season. Thanks for the gorgeous pics. They're the next best thing to being there.

Wow! The top two pics are definately WOWS.

Mary, it looks as though you have more color change than we do, in the third pic. I have one orange leaf in my maple tree...and all the trees around us are still green.

Today my husband, our dog, Rusty, and I went
up to Algonquin Park, about 3 1/2 hours north
of Toronto to see the leaves. I would say that
they were about 80% changed, a perfect day to
spend having a picnic and walking a former
railroad track.

Next week-end (Canadian Thanksgiving--a
three day week-end--) we'll be in the UP to visit
our daughter. Hoping to see vibrant leaves
and spend precious time with family and
friends. I can hardly wait!
