Good morning everyone :) Da Abbi..and thus me... slept in this morning...till 7am. Finally getting her off her 6am wake up schedule.
I simply refuse to work today...instead, I am treating myself to a day outside. Although there is a pile of paperwork next to my keyboard that I keep glancing at...but know that what looks like an hour of work will turn into several hours.

Have a great day everyone :-)

Anyone else see the northern lights in the wee hours of the morning? Not as much color as they had early on Sunday but they were large and fast-moving. Lit up my yard like it was dawn. The dog and I were able to walk around outdoors easily with the white flashing lights. It then seemed eerie when it went pitch black before sunrise.

WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er): I think we're going to need a
photo of Da Abbi. Can you help us here?

By joseph (Jhurl) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 10:50 am:

What about the colors are they changing yet

By Marc Slis (Marc) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 10:51 am:

Currently, there is a large amount of solar activity, which may continue for a few more days, providing us with awsome N. lights for a while, yet:)

By Cindy Lee Maki (Cindylee) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 11:05 am:

Joanne, doesn't ring a bell with us. And joseph, the trees are really starting to change nicely. That is my opinion anyway. The tree in my yard is beautiful!!! I'll be looking for the northern lights tonight for sure. Thanks for the info Marc. P.s. the colors I'm talking about are here Calumet Mich.

Barb,
I will have to find a pic to of Da Abbi to post. She is a cutie...and needless to say, is da baby of our family. While my companion dog must do tricks for treats, we tell Da Abbi, "Ok, look cute for a cookie". She will sit, then cock her head and grin at you, for her cookie.
We rescued Da Abbi when she was a couple of months old...and were told that she was a german sheppard/rottweiler mix. However, as she matured, she lost her 'rottweiler mask' on her face...and her robey tail, that I almost had the vet clip when she was a puppy, became a beautiful plume of long hair.
Now, the vet thinks she is a mix of long hair german sheppard and husky. But whatever, she is da baby and she is beautiful. I will try and locate a pic of Da Abbi and scan it. ;)

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 12:57 pm:

When I first saw the reference to Da Abbi, I thought you were asking for a picture of the monastery at Jacob's Falls!

I commented on the northern lights after reading Sharon's journal last night. If you don't know how to do that, click on Bridge Cam below, then "Sharon Smith"., then "journal" for a daily dose of life in Copper Harbor.

I'm also looking for comments on how the fall color is coming, so I can plan my last trip UP of the year. Home base is Aura, north of L'anse, and we'll spend a day in the Keweenaw and a day in the Porkies. We squeeze a lot into four days! I'll be watching daily for comments on the color change.

You are too funny, Marsha.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 01:35 pm:

Marsha,
You gave me my first belly chuckle for the day. I agree with Maija...you are just too funny.

Hi ya Maija! :-)

By Cindy Lee Maki (Cindylee) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 03:00 pm:

Oh I'm so happy I have to share this. My son Jake was on the computer yesterday and showed me a girl from school's picture blog or web site???, and much to my happy surprize were pictures of my grandson. Haven't seen P.J.(my grandson) in three and a half years, due to a falling out with daughter, bless her heart. He will be 4 yrs. old on the 29th. He is so big and cute!!! Got his grandma Maki's eyes and his mama's dimples. Guess it was meant to be because Saturday was GRANDPARENTS DAY... My wish came true.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 04:13 pm:

Cindy Lee:
Not my business, but I surely wish there could be any way you could repair the differences with daughter. My best friend had that experience and has not seen her grandson in years. Breaks my heart!

By Robert - CO (Halork) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 06:34 pm:

I just saw this on the web: LSSU's Aquatic Research Lab now has a live "fish cam" showing the fish schooling beneath the Edison Sault Power Plant (shown on the Pasty Cam a couple weeks back).
Here, fishy, fishy, fishy!

The URL is http://www.lssu.edu/arl/

Enjoy!

By Cindy Lee Maki (Cindylee) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 09:35 pm:

Maija, Thanks for the kind words. I wish we could mend our relationship too, but her extended family won't let her. At least I'm not the only broken hearted grandma. Tell your friend I totally understand what she is feeling.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, September 12, 2005 - 09:59 pm:

Cindylee,
That is so sad...my heart goes out to you. Praying that one day, your daughter will open her eyes, and realize how wonderful and loving of a mother you are, and will patch the distance she has placed between the two of you.
(((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))

By Kelly Marshall (Kelly) on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 06:09 am:

I just heard a flood alert for the Western UP. Heavy rains have saturated the ground overnight and another 4-6 inches expected by noon today which will cause "ponding" and basement flooding.
Feast or famine with the rain, eh?

By Marlin K Wenberg (Mkw) on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 07:05 am:

Lots of rain last night. I don't know how much, but it sounded impressive!!

By Cindy Lee Maki (Cindylee) on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 07:46 am:

Sur5er, I sure wish I knew you personally. You are so sweet. Have a very very good day!!! Your friend Cindy Lee.
