The WHO has put out another advisory on Bird Flu. Here is an excerpt from AP article on Finland's approach "HELSINKI (AFP) - Saunas are a favourite haunt of athletes seeking out a good sweat, but officials in Finland are now recommending the steamroom as a way of keeping the deadly bird flu out of the Nordic country.
The agriculture ministry has advised travelers to areas hard-hit by the disease to disinfect themselves in the high temperatures of the sauna.
"We issued a general recommendation for poultry producers to prevent the spread of the virus with the sauna," ministry expert Sirpa Kiviruusu told AFP."

Just back from the central U.P. Saw no eagles but did see
sandhill cranes on Little Bay de Noc, heard a pileated
woodpecker near an old Indian cemetery on the
NahmaPeninsula, walked a forest trail in the Hiawatha Forest,
and enjoyed rapids on the Sturgeon River near Flowing Well Park
also in "our" national forest. Also got to renew acquaintances at
my wife's high school reunion. Beautiful weather all weekend,
no flies, and great perch at a lovely log cabin restaurant high
above Little Bay de Noc with a great view of the bay. And we
even saw some northern lights one nite tho they were kind of
mediocre. Not a bad weekend, eh?

In the event of this terrible tragedy(Katrina), in talking with my father in law the other day we both thought " we have it made!" We may get our couple of hundred inches of snow every year but we don't have to worry about hurricanes, tornadoes, mudslides, earthquakes, sunnamis, etc. My heart goes out to all of the victims & volunteers of this awful disaster. I thank God for living in this beautiful area of the U.P.

Cheryl, totally agree with you. My heart too ,goes to the people who lost everything. After watching on t.v., the destruction from the hurricane I to thank God for living in the Copper Country. Makes me get my mind off my recent neck surgery which is very painful. And also the recent death of my friend Larry Kaipio. Rest in peace Larry. David and I are grateful you were our friend.

Charles in Adrian,

Cindylee, Hope you are feeling better, soon...that's gotta be painful. Sorry to hear about your friend.

By Cindy Lee Maki (Cindylee) on Thursday, September 8, 2005 - 04:00 pm:

Thanks Sur5er, I feel better everyday. I should of had surgery on my neck years ago, but I didn't realize how damaged it really was. If you have pain in your body, go see a SPECIALIST immediatly!!! And thanks for the kind words for our friend Larry. He left two small boys and a beautiful wife behind... only God knows why......

Cindylee,
Glad to hear that your recovery is going well and that you are in good spirits.
That is so sad that your friend died at such a young age and left behind a wonderful wife and young children. If you ever need someone to talk with, don't hesitate to email me. ;)
