Z-Man delivers up a colorful visual feast to help kick off the Autumn season. Somebody took the painstaking job of placing the bulbs and seeds for this display of finery, to flower in conjunction with the pumpkins becoming that perfect shade of fall. This time of year, garden enthusiasts need to be watching the weather forecast so the arrangements can be protected should frost or snow be on the way!

With all the colorful blooms above, I just had to add the second photo of this hardy little petunia that was discovered by Fr. Francis Dobrzenski, in the St. Joseph Church parking lot in Lake Linden, this week. Growing out of the blacktop like that, so close to the church, you might say it's 'living on a prayer'! :->

This is why I love the fall...the beautiful hardy mums and the harvest. Ahhhhhhh....fall is definately in the air. ;)

I love autumn. The balmy weather, the leaves changing color, the arrival of Canadian Geese, the color of the fall flowers and nature getting ready for a long winters nap. Here in Northern California we will have the great Pumpkin Festival where people from all over the states will be bringing in there largest grown pumpkins...some the size of a VW which is always great fun to watch, wine tasting in the wine country and the harvest celebrations in which we all know as the Octoberfest.
Great picture Z-Man.

Pretty pictures.

Great pictures to begin my day. My pumpkin in my yard grew from a pumpkin from last halloween. Last year it got shoveled off the front step with the first snow we had. This spring I noticed a pumpkin plant growing on side of my house, and lo and behold, I have a pretty good size PUMPKIN!!!! I call it my home-grown baby.

I'm surprised to see marigolds doing so well this late in the season. I would have expected to see hardy mums in this fall display. Here at our greenhouse mum sales are in full swing now that the weather has finally cooled off. What a great fall display!!

I must say, this is a beautiful picture. I just love it. Now I have the urge to go and buy some pumpkins to decorate my house and lawn.

Pretty picture that captures the feel of fall! I love this time of year, even if I do have a TON of leaves to rake up!

By Therese (Therese) on Thursday, September 29, 2005 - 03:57 pm:

Last fall I placed a couple of small pumpkins in the garden out front, and this year had several vines come up from seeds the voles missed. They grew rapidly, and I trained them around the edge of my two small ponds. Now I have several small baking-sized pumpkins awaiting harvest. But the squash seeds I carefully planted this spring in deep soil never came up. Maybe Mother Nature knows more about gardening than I do.
