The bad news

Holy wah! I couldn't believe it this week when gas prices hit $3 bucks. But last night in Calumet it looked like they might reach $4 before it stops. Aledgedly all of this sticker shock is a result of hurricane Katrina, which hit the lower end of the Mississippi this week.

Back in 1998 the Pasty Cam caught this marquee a couple of times with messages of local interest. Little did we know that the prices would one day bring a little nostalgia, too!

El Nino
Two years ago when I travelled to all fifty states and Canada, I seem to recall prices under a buck a gallon in places. Glad I took the time to see the country back then, because it would take a second mortgage to do it now!!

If you're travelling this weekend, stay safe. And don't spend it all in one place ;->

Good morning from Mishawaka IN. Prices are running about the same here in Indiana. Will be staying home or walking. I'm lucky I live only live 1 1/2 miles from work. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend everyone.

Our gas in the area ranges from $3.07 to $3.19 and it goes up at least twice a day! My twin brother lives in Pearl River and we have not heard a word all week whether he was flooded out or wrecked by the storm...this waiting and wondering is hard on the family...they have no electricity, no phones, including cell phones, no TV, etc. I can't imagine living down there right now in those conditions...besides all the heat! Everyone should open their pockets and donate whatever they can and pray for this horrible situation to get better. Everytime I watch, my stomach gets upset and wonder what I would do in that situation. Somethings should just never happen...

Good morning from Mishawaka, IN #2. On trip to Meijer this am I saw gas prices at $2.99 and right across the steet $3.09. We have a wedding to attend this afternoon. Then tomorrow morning it's off to our cottage in Angola, IN. Have a great weekend everyone and remember those in the Hurricane Katrina area--both survivors and those trying to help.

Up to $4.99 here in South Carolina, but worse than that, a huge percentage of our gas stations have run out of gas altogether. I think if people would just not panic and conserve we'll have this fixed in due time.

I noticed yesterday (I believe) that the Marathon station in Dollar Bay had the lowest priced gas in Michigan (of the stations reported to a web site) as reported to: http://michigangasprices.com. I used to buy my gas there, but now live in the L.P.

I'm glad we got up to the UP last year since gas prices and availability make it iffy this year.
I guess this is what "they" mean when they say things are looking up.

$2.99 at MURPHY USA (Wal-Mart) today. HOUGHTON

By Danbury (Danbury) on Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 06:19 pm:

Ok, about 3.40 $ per gallon - that's about 50 per cent of what we pay.
Welcome to the future. Throwing strategic reserve on the market is a rather stupid move - there's no general shortage (a few exceptions excepted), but a new balance of supply and demand. That's called liberal market - nothing else.

http://www.gasbuddy.com is another good site for finding gas prices around the USA.

:)
