By maija (Maijami) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 08:09 am:

Don't tell me there is another fire up there! Looks like smoke on Tech's Ripley 2 motion cam.

By maija (Maijami) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 08:13 am:

What's up? I went back to check Tech's Ripley 2 motion camera again, and all the motion cam links had disappeared. There is still a pic of the smoke on Ripley 2 still image.

Got up this morning at barely first light to let out the dogs, and the northern lights were impressive, even with dawn light and moon light in the sky. I will be out looking for them tonight.

Trying to dig out from some piles of paperwork by next week...so I can go home to Michigan. ;) Working...working...working...hang on, I think I can actually see some of the floor in my office. Working...working...working...

I have some photos of the recent Rice Lake fire in my gallery

By Gus LL (Gusll) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 10:58 am:

The above gallery is in my name (Carl Kiilunen).

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 11:12 am:

Gus LL, Great pics of the fire...it is so amazing how the fire fighters were able to control the fire...just imagine all the damage that fire could have done, if it had not been for their efforts, hard work, and dedication.

Honest, I'm working...honest. See: working...working...working...

By Kay, Wisconsin (Kayb) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 11:50 am:

I looked for the northern lights very late last night (here in Wisconsin) but saw only a very clear, star-filled sky. When is a good time to see the lights?

By mrsrock630 (Mrsrock630) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 02:29 pm:

sur5er, you are working so hard you are making me tired!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 02:56 pm:

Mrsrock630, I took a break and went outside to sit...but the darn Indiana version of the black fly season is upon us. So, the nipping black flies sent me scurring back into the house...so much for my break. And now, there is another black fly flying around my office, that got in when I stepped outside. Now, I can't really work, because I am swatting at the darn flies and scratching my bites. Ouch!

Swat!Scratch...scratch...scratch...work...swat...

Cool..The bridge cam finally caught the Ranger coming in this afternoon.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 03:06 pm:

I looked for the northern lights here in Toronto
without success, but then with all of the lights
here it's hard to see the stars.

Had many opportunities to view the stars and
some meteor action while on vacation in the
UP for the past three weeks. Glad to have
eaten lots of UP foods, picked berries, visited
relatives, attended Finn Fest, struggled to use
a little Finnish with visiting relatives from
Finland, and took a side trip to the Apostle
Islands.

Now that our daughter is living in the UP and
our son is in the US Army, my husband and I
are wondering why we're all alone here in
Canada. Must be the fact that our jobs are
here.

By mrsrock630 (Mrsrock630) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 05:17 pm:

sur5er, pick up the flyswatter and the fly magically disappears! Gotta go, off to night class. See ya!

By Sunrise Side MI (Ilovelucy2) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 05:25 pm:

Yooper, good to see you back. We so enjoy your animations!!
Does anyone know what time to look for the northern lights? I'm not sure it they are visable here on the Sunrise Side. Have a good evening everyone.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 05:49 pm:

Sunrise Side, Hope this link to MTU's Geological & Mining Engineerings & Sciences Dept. helps.
