Very interesting conversation in Blast from the Past. Seems people are somewhat reluctant to post opinions now that we all have to register. I miss those previous conversations.

Hi all,
I am having a strange problem with this website. I have it as my home page and more often than not,it shows "this page cannot be displayed" I have found that I have to delete cookies and temp files to get it back. Does anyone have a solution on this weird problem??? I love this sight and its frustrating when I can't get here. Thanks, Ellen

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 09:07 am:

Thanks for the note, Ellen. We have not heard any other reports of any problems viewing Pasty Central, but always want to know if anyone has unexpected results from the website. We'll check into it.

Maija: It's really no trouble to register and post now, is it? Just click below and give as much info as you want. You don't have to do it all. We'll be up Friday. Can't wait! Hot and humid again down here.

Good morning from the shores of lake gogebic !! Only 3 more days of our family vacation left. Today it's the Porcupine Mtns and lake of the clouds, tomorrow bond falls. Two annual trips for us.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 10:02 am:

Jeffkal, Sounds like you are having a great vacation...and will have memories to get you through the winter, until your next summer vacation, eh, ;)

Maija, Hopefully the posts here are a little slow, only because everyone is on vacation...or simply outside enjoying the beautiful weather.

By maija (Maijami) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 01:12 pm:

Marsha, yes, it's easy to register. I hope people know that one can register without having a link to e-mail. There is a simple click to indicate that. This is why my name comes up in purple rather than blue. I did get a lot of SPAM when I was posting w my email.

sur5er: I hope so!

By maija (Maijami) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 01:13 pm:

Best wishes, Margaret.

Good Afternoon, looks like I brought the heat back with me from West Palm Beach Florida. At least we can take a dip in the cool lake Superior. Not like the ocean, by the time you walk back to the beach, you are sweating again. Like I said before--- there is no place like home!!!!!!!!!

By maija (Maijami) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 01:19 pm:

Thanks for the interesting link, jAPEi.

By mrsrock630 (Mrsrock630) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 02:46 pm:

Good luck, Margaret!
I'm not shy to post but since I live in Wisconsin and only remember being in Michigan once for vacation I don't have stories to tell. I had been planning a Copper Harbor trip for the last three years and still haven't made it. I loved my first trip there years ago. I can't take the car ride that distance even with stops. That is why I love this site. Also, the neat people who are here.
sur5er, did your new pool come yet? I finally gave up on mine and ordered a new one. Hubby said I needed to downsize from what I had, think not. It is the only thing that keeps me sane in 92 degree heat. Hot one here again today. Should be here by this weekend, I hope!
Sorry to here Gladstone didn't win, have friends there.

Charlie, AOL has not let me access the site for a few weeks now. I go to Foxfire to see you guys from my home computer.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 03:57 pm:

MrsRock,
Yepper depper, my new pool arrived two weeks ago...and I love it more than the first one. Tell hubby that we princesses do not downsize on anything ;) We need cold pool water in order to survive...although the strawberry daiquiris do help some.
Besides, if the pool water gets too warm, we can always throw in a bag or two of ice, so it seems like we are at home swimming in Lake Superior. :-)
Crossing my fingers that your pool arrives soon.

There is a really bad brush fire down Rice Lake area. 7 or 8 fire departments are on scene right now. Pray that noone or anything gets hurt!!!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 04:06 pm:

Roger,
AOL was experiencing problems first with their AOL privacy wall...and then with thier Beta version of AOL. Wonder if that was your problem.
In regards to the AOL privacy wall, if you have it, you may want to uninstall it...for some reason it is not compatable with all versions of Windows and causes the computer to freeze up and you not to be able access certain sites.
In regards to AOL's new Beta version, I was unable to access my email and certain sites, and actually had to delete and reinstall AOL numerous times.
Hope this info helps. ;)

Rice Lake Fire

By
Brad (Bingb) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 07:28 pm:

Channel 5 here in Green Bay {ch 3 Escanaba } just ended the news by sayiing there was an evacuation order for residents to go to Lake Linden..

By Connie Rowe (Connie8792) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 08:13 pm:

Wow! Any other info? Do they know how it started?

By dlaitila@pasty.com (Daryl) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 08:36 pm:

According to TV 6 in Marquette's web site...

Firefighters from more than a dozen fire departments are battling a wildfire near Rice Lake in the Keweenaw this evening.

State Police say at least 100 acres have burned so far. There's no report of injuries or damage to homes yet.

But police have ordered the evacuation of all residents living on Big Traverse Lake Road. The residents have been told to exit by way of Gay Lac LaBelle Road.

A shelter has been set up for them at Like Linden School.

The fire was first reported at 2:21 Monday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but officials say it's spreading fast because of wind gusts of 25 miles per hour.

By Downstatedon (Downstatedon) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 09:46 pm:

Hoping and praying that the Rice Lake fire soon is
under control. So much dry marsh land there. So
many good memories of camping on the South shore
of Rice Lake when growing up.

By AJ - WI (Ajinwi) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 09:49 pm:

Wildfires are so frightening and get out of control so easily in drought conditions especially with the wind being a factor! Let's hope it can be contained soon. We surely have to be thankful for the firefighters' dedication and the conditions they work in. Hopefully we will get another update this evening.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 09:54 pm:

Keeping everyone in the Rice Lake area and the firefighters in my thoughts and prayers.

By Steve Haagen (Stevewi) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 11:00 pm:

Charlie I have had alot of problems with the site also, I am using dial up with internet explorer. I have to go out sign off and clear temp files and cookies, and that will only work sometimes. It started about the time of the Registration for cam notes, I thought it was just me.

By Steve Haagen (Stevewi) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 11:22 pm:

Charlie I should also add that this holds true for all of the pasty.net site, Sharon Smiths, John Dee, Eagle Harbor web ect.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Monday, August 8, 2005 - 11:30 pm:

The news (ch 6) said they thought it was started
by lightning. they also just said that is is about 50% contained. No injuries or property damage yet.

By Al Verlinde (Armadaal) on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 - 07:12 am:

Wondering if anyone has an update on the fire in the Big Traverse area ?

By Kelly Marshall (Kelly) on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 - 07:26 am:

Wolv radio's website has the full story. They are top notch in local reporting!
Also heard that John Dee has some amazing photos.
