As you travel throughout the northern portion of the Upper Peninsula, you come across a number of different views of Lake Superior along the way. This particular scene isn't one of the easiest to get to, but somehow, Aladino Mandoli made it to the top of the summit on Hogsback Mountain near Marquette. This mountain is 1,220 feet high, with the peak rising 600 feet above the terrain in the last three quarter to half mile of the trek. It's one of the southernmost peaks of the Huron Mountain Range and it's said the solitude of the area is the best part, with the view to the north being forests and hills. If you look to the south you'll spot a few cottages or homes, as can be seen in the full size file of this shot, near where the sailboat is passing through. Quite the vista showing off the beauty of the Big Lake and surrounding lands combined!

Beautiful shot!
I have a photo that I took of a map to Hogsback. It's in my gallery and you may need to click on the full size version.
It's a great place to head to when the leaves are turning. Don't forget your camera!

Is it just me or is the resolution on the bridge cam less than it used to be. I used to be able to read the road signs clearly as well as Kirkish and now can read neither........(Maybe I need some "cheaters".......one guys opinion anyway...

I think the Bridgecam is fine, it is the summer heat and haze that distorts the pic.
Last night I saved the picture with the moon in the background. What do not remember from before is a big lit up area south of town. I can not determine what it may be....
By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 10:23 am:
possibly the new parking lot at the expanded walmart supercenter
By Budone (Budone) on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 10:32 am:
Oh yeah forgot about that. Is it open yet???
In the cam pix, it is left of the antenna, nearly due south of the bridge.

Is there a trail leading up there? It's easy to find your way up, since all ups lead to the top, but not so easy coming back as there are many downs, only one of which holds your car.
By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 01:25 pm:
looking at the web cam, that is two far east to be walmart.
But in just the right place you describe would be Bugni field at houghton High

Did they get a Walmart in Houghton........well if you haven't noticed, it is the quickest way to turn a vibrant downtown into a parking lot with only bars and fudge shops.......Walmart destroyed Claremont, N.H. where I grew up. The main street is 70% vacant, and I remember when you could not rent a space on Pleasant Ave. (taking a deep breath)
By Budone (Budone) on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 08:25 pm:
Well, Wallyworld is well south of downtown... if it is clear tonight about 9:30, look to the south left of the antenna.
If it is not lit up, let me know how to post the picture and I will let all the experts decided what was lit up last night...
See y'all in a week!!!!! i CAN not WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!
By Budone (Budone) on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 09:42 pm:
Well, it looks like the Bridge cam got stuck at 1:30. So much for looking at it at 9:30.
I did look at my wallpaper tonight and the lights llok well south of Wallyworld.......

Flyindamooney, My sentiments exactly about Wallymart. They are expanding the one here in town, to a Super Wally. I feel for the local merchants. Sigh.
