From east to west, the entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a delightful place to explore - its history, people, and places. One place we revisit from time to time here on the Pasty Cam is Mackinac Island, just offshore from St. Ignace in the Straits area.
In 1947 the Grand Hotel began filming a movie starring Esther Williams (*splash*) and Jimmy Durante (ha cha cha cha!). Some of the scenes were shot in the 500,000 gallon Esther Williams Swimming Pool. The next summer there was a convention for prosecuting attorneys held on the Island in August. Longtime Pasty.NET member Jan Dahlquist was fortunate enough to travel to the conference with her Dad, M.J. Anuta, who was prosecuting attorney in Menominee County at the time. And fortunate for us that someone took along a camera.
