Hey all Good Morning

Good Morning from Southwest Michigan. We probably don't have the warmest temperatures, but it really sticky here. Our shore of lake Michigan had water temps only in the 40's recently. I went out yesterday and it is warmer then that, but decidedly refreshing. Boomers predicted this afternoon. Stay cool everyone! (Yooper, do you have a "refreshing" pic for us? Loved the ones this weekend!).

lz, I don't know how close you are to Indiana...but here in Beverly Shores, the Lake Michigan temps are at an all time high for this time of the year. Usually it still takes your breath away in July.

Mornin', still wish I could put my foot into something other than a puddle. Going to take the g-kids to the pool today.

Sur5er, my work "port" would be Holland, MI, my home "port" would be South Haven, MI. Apparently the recent east winds have sent all the warm waters heading west. A change to southwesterly winds is changing that for us! As much as I love the UP and Superior, I am too old to enjoy water temps similar to Superior! :)

Good Morning all! We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Chuck Muer River Crab below Port Huron yesterday. While eating, the freighter Fred White, Jr. passed thru heading north. I found myself wondering if it was going to the "Big Lake"!

Yesterday Pasty.com ran a pic of a car on the old M & L.S. I
commented that when a boy a friend of my father took us out to
a lumber camp he ran. Mary Lou on this site later in the day
wondered if this was a friend of hers. The name she gave was
not familiar. My father's friend had a last name of, I think,
Slining. I am wondering if Mary Lou's friend would remember
someone from the 1940s with that name. If so, I am wondering
what company he worked for and where some of their camps
would have been working out of Manistique.

Heavy rain so far this morning in the Keweenaw but clearing this afternoon. I just heard a weather alert for strong winds with gusts up to 45mph for this afternoon. Between this and the heat; we have had everything except s*** this week.

Charles.....Carl Howard owned lumber camps in Newberry and Seney. The name Slining was not familiar. Incidently, my friend, who is Carl Howard's daughter is a golf partner of Ruthi Vinette, Dale's wife. (fellow who built the Isle Royale Queen ll & lll.)

Yesterday,with temps in the 90's, we went from one end of the Keweenaw peninsula to the other and saw so many people swimming in Lake Superior. We finally stopped in Betsy at a friends house to swim. The owner of the house took a thermometer into the lake and checked the temps. Near the shore it was 88 degrees and in 1 1/2 feet of water out furthur, it was 77 degrees. Never swam in such warm Lake Superior water. All the surface water warmed up but now with the wind, it will be gone.

Concerning water temps, I was going to say earlier that the
water temp. in Lake Erie at Toledo yesterday was 77 degrees.
Then I thought why condemn Lake Erie more than Yoopers think
of it already by showing how close to tepid bathwater it is down
here. But then you tell me water temp. in Lake Superior is just
as bad if not worse! How depressing! But are you sure?

Mars is getting closer...the lakes will all boil away and we'll all be killed...oh my !

Water temp off Tampa is in the 90's, and the locals think that's
great!! These are different people down here.

Wish I was back in the UP!!!

What ever happened to Dave of Laurium? Does he only post in the winter?

Lake Temperatures:
Lake Michigan, Beverly Shores IN: 76.5 degrees.
Lake Michigan, South Haven, MI: 79.0 degrees.
Lake Superior: Keweenaw Penisula (west) 68.1 degrees.
Lake Superior: Keweenaw Penisula (east) 73.0 degrees.
Lake Superior: Copper Harbor: 57 degrees.

According to hubby, Lake Michigan's normal water temps (northern IN), for July/August are about 65-70 degrees. So right now, Lake Superior is warmer than Lake Michigan's normal water temps. WOW!

Lake Erie: Michigan (Monroe): 81.5 degrees.
Lake Erie: Ohio (East Toledo) 82.4 degrees.

Went swimming at Rabbit Bay yesterday, first time in fifteen years at least. Took the water temp by shore, it read 86 and five feet out it was 78. I don't recall ever spending such a long time in the water. Gorgeous sandy beach as well as sand bottom in the lake , truly a wonderful time. We left to go home before ten and there were people still swimming.

Does anyone know if the Arcadian Motel just south of Calumet is still for sale and what the asking price is? I have friends who are looking for a motel property to make a move to the UP.

We went picnicing and swimming at White City Beach on Sunday....the weather was so warm and Lake Superior was too...but the further you walked out the cooler it got...it was very strange to have Hot and cold stops...and I would mean hot spots...I actually went in and it didn't even take my breathe away. My granddaughter (2 and a half) stayed in forever and even with rattling teeth and saying she wasn't cold she cried hard when we told her we must get out of the water. There were many many people at the beach cooling off..it was very refreshing but then had to go back to Hancock where it was still over 90. But I will not be complaining about the cold this winter as I will try and remember the heat from this summer...;)

I wish I had posted this much earlier today, so all the folks in the TV6 viewing area could have tuned in, but Buck LeVasseur was part of our entourage of friends on our getaway to Isle Royale last week and he featured the trip on Discovering tonight. It was an awesome trip with superb weather and even better company. Buck portrayed the entire trip so well, it felt like we were out there again! Here's a shot of Buck hard at work, interviewing one of the cook's (my hubby!)...
