Good morning everyone. What a great day for an All Star Game.

Morning!

By sur5er on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 08:13 am:

Good morning :) Had a wonderful day on Lake Michigan yesterday...can't believe how warm the water temps are, already this year. I think this is the warmest the lake has gotten so early in the summer, since we've moved to Indiana.

By maijaMi on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 08:32 am:

Hey Pasty friends:
Thanks for asking about me. Yup, I haven't been posting cause I was up in the incredible Keweenaw. Stayed in Eagle Harbor next to Roudy and Ann. Still haven't met Troll from Eagle Harbor though.

And you're right again: feasted on Ambassador pizza, Toni's pasties, and Harbor Haus wonderful dinners.

Was at Pasty Fest which was great. Sunny warm day, unlike last year which was cold rain.

Did I see you, Brita, just leaving with some of your adorable children?

Missing the Copper Country,
maija

Mornin'

By ls on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 09:00 am:

Sur5er,
An article in the Detroit News discussed the water temps in the Great Lakes. Not really good news for fishermen if it continues.
http://www.detnews.com/2005/metro/0507/03/D01-235807.htm

By sur5er on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 09:30 am:

ls, Thanks for the link. We have already had a few days when the beaches were closed on Lake Michigan due to the high E-coli count. I also noted that when we were at the beach yesterday, that there was seaweed washed ashore...something which we never get.
If the lake's this warm now, can you imagine what it will be like in August? Usually Lake Michigan isn't warm until August...which is why I had asked for recommendations from everyone for a jet skiing lake in Michigan, last month.
Just not used to such warm water temps...especially in one of the great lakes.

Maija, Welcome back. So how many pasties and Ambassador pizzas did you consume? Hope you had a wonderful trip with your trucklet. ;)

We're coming up to the UP in a couple of weeks. Hows the fishing on the inland lakes with the temperatures being so warm for this time of year?

By Brita on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 10:15 am:

Could've been me! I went to the parade, but I didn't make it to the other events. Next time, wave me down!

By Norma in Midland on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 11:14 am:

Happy 80th Birthday Dad (Norman Paulson)!! Hope we didn't poop you out too much. My last count there were between 85-90 people at your party yesteday. Those of you who had to miss it, we had a great time inspite of the 90+ degrees. Can't wait, we leave this Saturday for the great UP!! Little Betsy we will see you soon!!

By Cats away on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 02:59 pm:

How do I repel cats? I think one has been leaving droppings in the driveway. What keeps them away? Thanks!

By Dr. Doolittle, mi on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 03:05 pm:

To repel cats; Mothballs. Some say pepper dust/sprays. I suggest a large dog.

Nice to see you back Maija and that you are alright. Missed your comments.

By Beverly, San Jose on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 03:16 pm:

Has anyone heard if Audrey is alright in San Jose after her surgery from a biking accident.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 03:33 pm:

Beverly,
Audrey is recouperating, slowly, but surely. She had a few complications from one of the surgeries, that I'm not sure she'd like me to go into. So let's just keep her in our thoughts and prayers and keep sending her positive and kind thoughts! I don't think she'd mind me saying this....she's still not able to eat solid food until the end of July. Heck of a way to go on a diet!

By Joe Finn, Rhinelander, Wi on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 04:05 pm:

Get rid of cats: Go to your county extension. They will give you a trap free for nothing. But, carefully listen to their instructions. Cats are smart. A stray cat decimated my birds until I trapped it, and removed it.

By Fresh Scooper on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 04:47 pm:

Put a litter pan in your driveway - lol

By maijaMI on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 05:22 pm:

Pretty humbling to see that people take notice of my little comments! I enjoy everyone else's posts too.

Sur5er: I ain't telling! Let's just say I ate majorly well in the Copper Country!

To those who haven't been there: absolutamente wonderful!

Brita: no, the woman I saw who really looked like you with the blonde children was leaving the park. Ah, someday, we'll connect.

Safe & sound in Pensacola. Evacuated on Friday to the Tallahassee area, came back this afternoon to find little or no damage to the west side of Pensacola where we live. Have power, water and phone. I'm headed to the UP, if I can fly out on Wednesday.

CatsAway: get a humane trap...my daughter and son in law are having same problem...they use a trap for racoons, possums, etc. she has found the perfect bait...sardines! the cats she has caught love them! she has caught a few possums too, they can be nasty! Good luck, hopes this helps! :)

Happy Birthday Norm, slow that Big White Cadillac down!

By John-Canton Mi on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 10:46 pm:

sur5er, sorry did not see your question until now about balsamic vinegar.
Start with a small , 8 oz one thats mid priced about $4.00. (one leaf) to make sure you like it, most any brand will do. If you do go to the 10 yr aged ones for 10-15. (3-4 leaf). Try
Colavita or Roland although thier are many fine ones at most markets now.
Love it on salads with a good olive oil also.
They even have balsamic tastings now ala
vino.
Read daily but rarely post. Nice to finally
have something to cotribute after taking so much out of this great site.A very knowledgeable group here and have learned much. Thank you.

By Audrey, San Jose, CA on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 11:11 pm:

To Beverly,

I had meant to respond to your post earlier today, but here it is, after 8pm, and I realize I never had! Thank you for thinking of me!

I'm hanging in there, I had a total of 3 surgeries. I think what I'll do is write a little more here tomorrow. I'll leave myself a note so I don't forget!

To Fran, Ga - thank you so much for your comment.

And to Mary... thank you so much for responding for me!

More on Tuesday's What's Up page.

Audrey, Hope you have a quick recovery. You're in our thoughts and prayers. I must admit that I am amazed that you have the energy to post after all you have been through. Thanks for taking the time to keep us posted on your progress.

By sur5er on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 11:21 pm:

John-Canton, Thanks for the balsamic vinegar tips...much appreciated. I used a 4 year balsamic vinegar and it was delish on the strawberries...but I will definately have to try the more expensive types too.
