By not one on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:14 am:

I would like to repeat my message posted on yesterday's What's UP. I totally agree with Ed and Kevin about religious comments being not appropriate for this site. Personally, I like and greatly respect (most) Christians. I find the Gitchee Gumee info and background very interesting. But proselytizing should perhaps come under the acceptable use policy? Should there not be a separate page as there is for political conversations?
In a public forum such as this, a person's religious beliefs are of no interest to others who are not in that religion.
I hope Ed will stay for all the other great stuff on this site.

By not one on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:18 am:

I must add: the history, architecture, and culture of religions and their followers IS of interest.

By erica florida keys on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:36 am:

Good morning all. It is nice to take a moment to say "hello" to fellow human beings and just share the sheer joy of life!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:45 am:

Not one: Get one!

By not one on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:58 am:

I have one! Does it have to be Christian?

By UC, LB, Commerce Twp. MI on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 09:07 am:

Leavin tomorrow for the CC and Little Betsy, can't wait, Grampa Norm, Nephew Ben, Uncle Mike and Me. Time for some relaxation UP style!

By UC, LB on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 09:10 am:

Marty, get in the truck and come on U.P.!

By sur5er on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 09:23 am:

Not One, just scroll past the posts that you don't agree with. Amazing how speaking about one's beliefs can cause such a ruckus. Personally, I find the posts on here to be very uplifting...and in my line of work, I could use as much light at the end of the tunnel as possible. ;)

Three more days until I head home to Michigan. YES!!!!

By Janie,IA. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 11:10 am:

sur5er: where is home in Michigan? Have a safe trip!

By maijaMI on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 11:24 am:

Erica, FL Keys: So right! Have a gorgeous morning here in Commerce Twp. MI also. Like a UP summer day. Take joy in the day, all.

By Niece Sarah, L.B. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 12:44 pm:

Uncle Chuck- Isn't Nate going? Have a great time! I'm jealous!

By kc, mn on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 02:03 pm:

I haven't read the comments for several weeks (just looked at the pictures). After reading this weeks comments, I remembered why.....too much whining.....

By joesyopper on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 02:20 pm:

And too much chat room. Read the policy.

By Charles in Adrian, MI on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 03:31 pm:

Well, all this concern about people expressing their religious
beliefs! I happen to be a big fan of the ACLU, and I think their
position would be that so long as certain beliefs are not
excluded, why not allow people to express their beliefs? I would
hope and expect that the editors of peer-vetted comments and
articles to Science and other scientific journals would delete
such comments, but the last I looked, pasty.com is for all of us
-- not just the scientists.

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 04:09 pm:

Hi Kevin, apricots keeping you up all night? :)

By pasty cam reader on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 06:14 pm:

Religion should NOT be discussed on this page.
It is a personal issue that should remain within ourselves and the Lord.

By Knitter on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 06:17 pm:

Copper City and Calumet Township Fire Departments have been dispatched to a structure fire at the old Stimac Market in Copper City, at 6:15 PM

By gmw on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 06:29 pm:

Thanks knitter for letting everyone know about the fire. Any apartments upstairs, hope no one gets hurt!!!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 06:52 pm:

How's it goin' out there knitter? Anything serious?

By observerfromcoppercity on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 06:57 pm:

The structure fire was a false alarm....there was just a little brush fire behind the building. It's out...no worries.

By d desai on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 07:02 pm:

are people not christian welcome in the u p ?

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 07:26 pm:

d desai,

Yes.

p.s. Christians are welcome, too.

When our staff has a little more time to explore the possibilities, we may add a forum for especially such discussion, similar to the page devoted to Ancestors, or New Arrivals. It looks like there may be interest in having such a topic.

By Knitter on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:04 pm:

I couldn't get back on-line right away to post that it was just a small shrub fire. Whew...Sigh of relief.

By Ms. Katie on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:20 pm:

Is anyone familiar with Calumet know of a building there for seniors? I remember visiting there with my folks around '81. We visited mom's best friend "Stacy" from back in the '20s.

By UC,LB on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:36 pm:

Sarah, Nate has baseball playoffs, football camp, and is all around to busy to hang with the old man. We'll be up as a family late July. Hope all is well with you and Scott.

By sg/Milford on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 11:59 pm:

Christian, Jewish, whatever....all roads leading to the same place; however, one should not push his/her beliefs onto others on a daily bases.

I think it was great back a year ago or two when folks had nice things to say about the UP and what the UP had to offer. Now, it's just chatter that should take place in ones own email setting....the long drawn out, sometimes ridiculous stories are just that ridiculous.

Let's talk about what we can do to enhance Pasty.com, instead of destroying a good thing, huh?

By Ed Kerry former Yooper on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 02:25 am:

I wasn't going to say any more on the subject of religion, but.... I
too have a religion and attend church regularly. I teach sunday
school, serve on committees and all that. I am not Christian but
my religion has as much value and legitimacy as Christianity.

I do not mention my faith in this or other forums. It stays inside
me. Why do Christians feel the need to reassure themselves so
often? Why do they try to push Christianity on the rest of us so
often? They do not have claim to the only valid religion or to
God..

Thank you for comments of support. I do like this Pasty Cam
service to keep in touch with the U.P. Maybe those tending to
post religion will pause a little before posting those things now
that awareness is raised? (It is late night even here on left
coast).

By danbury on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 02:32 am:

Ok, sg/Milford, but what would that mean? What direction?
We all have or own ideas how this site should be. Like guests who have thoughts about how their hosts should act. But who'd say so unasked for?
As to the UP-relation, it seems to me that the main picture page is like that, mostly - as strictly UP as it can get in a public forum, I guess.
Of course, deleting the What'sUP and limiting access would do the trick. But then, that'd take the charm out of this page.
Sorry if I offended anyone.

By Kevin K, Lodi, Ca. on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 03:39 am:

Bthecute1, They sure are. And in a couple of weeks it will be peachs.

By Beverly, San Jose on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 04:09 am:

I apologize in advance.
'I think you need to look at religion as we know it on a scientific basis. :) Let us look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to H***. Since there are more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to H***. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in H*** to increase exponentially'.

By frequent reader on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 07:14 am:

Last time I looked, we had freedom of religion in America. The christian comments on this site are VERY BORING!
