Good morning :) Hope all you daddies had a wonderful Father's Day.
Question for anyone who lives in or is familiar with Berrien or Cass counties in southwest Michigan: are there any lakes out that way for jet skiing? We're looking for warmer waters on an inland lake, about an hour's drive from Michigan City. Thanks ;)

sur5er--There are a number of lakes in Cass County for jet sking. Those that come to mind are Eagle, Juno, Diamond, Magician, and Donnell. Just over the northern boundry of Cass into VanBuren is Garvel, Cedar. I spent 38 years on Gravel and know jet sking is big there.

Charlotte, Thanks so very much :) Stepson will be joining the Marines next June, and he wants to get as many miles on the jetski as possible this summer...and Lake Michigan won't be warm enough for several more weeks.

I am familiar with southeastern Michigan, northern Michigan, and the UP...but not at all familiar with southwestern Michigan.

For the past five years, we had been taking the jet ski out to Pine Lake in LaPorte...but between the seaweed and the watercraft traffic, it got to be too dangerous.

What about Paw Paw Lake, (Cass County...I think)?

Paw Paw is in another county. There is another lake just north of Decatur that is large enough for a jet ski.

Wow, a question I could really answer.

Wow, you must drive like the wind to make it to the SW side oe the state in about an hour.... It is a good 4+ hours to get there from Mackinaw.

Thank you to everyone who posted their honeymoon suggestions on Friday.

We're heading into the 90's again this week, so November in the UP sounds pretty good right now.

Has anyone seen this month's issue of National Geograhic
Traveler? The cover story rates 55 national parks or lakeshores
in North America. For some reason Isle Royale and Pictured
Rocks were not rated, but the panel of experts did get to Apostle
Islands National Lakeshore, and it came in second in a tie with
Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia. In the case
of the Apostle Islands, they liked the wildness of the islands, and
they said Bayfield was a delightful gateway community. Too bad
they didn't get to Isle Royale, but, once again, Lake Superior
comes up big when travel pros see the area. (As for me, I was in
Cleveland yesterday, and it was wonderful to see the blueness of
Lake Erie rolling on toward the north. Love the Great Lakes!)

Charles, Adrian: I think it is great they didn't get to Isle Royale. Isle Royale is already over run by tourists. Have you made the run to Daisy Farm, after the Ranger arrives? Otherwise, no camp sites.
Bayfield is a over priced tourist trap. We go there in September when the weather is bad, and the tourists are gone. I do the same with Copper Harbor. Sorry, guys.

su5er---I think the lake Margaret is talking about by Decatur is Lake of the Wooks. Wish I had my MI lake book but it's at the cottage.

Joesyooper: Isle Royale only gets about 20,000 visitors per year [very low visitation for a 50 mile long island].
