Morning all. What a weekend. Left Sat. am for Calumet, picked up Mom, and left for Lapeer Sun.am. It was brief but I got a few hours of the "cleanest air". Love my Copper Country.

Welcome home Sharon! Now you can finally relax. Glad the tests were just a "scare." Wish I was UP there too-I'll have to wait until later this summer.

Looks like the Bete Grise "irons" will be a little difficult to manuver today, as the USGS KIYI is servicing the channel lights.

According to boadnerd.com, this 107 foot survey vessel was just commissioned April 29th., and is temporarily out of Ashland, Wisconsin.

The Hyrkas family is no longer making that delicious juustoa (squeaky cheese). I really miss it. I have tried an alternate brand but it did not compare in taste and texture. Too rubbery.
Another thing disappearing from the Copper County.

The juustoa I had when I was a kid had no taste, and had the consistancy of those big gum rubber erasers in grade school. The true Finnlanders thought it was great. I was dumbfounded as to why.

Finns like to chew on squeaky cheese for the same reason kids like to chew on erasers.

Eating the squeaky cheese is just as annoying
as rubbing ones fingernails on a blackboard.
Sends shivers down the spine.

Squeaky cheese is the best.....and I am not a Finn. I love it and buy it all the time!

My grandmother made juustoa that was VERY good. Not rubbery, had a good sweet cheesy taste, and was browned so nicely on top. (I hope I am thinking of the same thing...squeaky cheese?..... Maybe it was custard, but I know it wasn't viilia.

Hooray for Ashland. Sharon, post when you can and give us the update. Still praying as you are dear to all. We want you well.

Try puting the squeeky cheese in the microwave for a while to slightly melt it...

Juustoa has a very delicate texture, it is mild in taste. It is squeaky not rubbery. Some of you
must have eaten a poorly made cheese.
Hyrkas made the best. I bought it weekly for my
fellow Trivia players, many are not Finnish but
really liked the taste of it.
