Lake Superior by itself, is beauteous to behold whether on a hot summer day or even in the cold of winter. As you saunter along the shoreline, make sure you look around and take in all the details, otherwise you might miss a unique artifact. The Big Lake stirs up some powerful waves, which deposit eye-catching, natural artwork on the beach, like this driftwood sculpture spotted by Peter Chiomenti. Check out the smooth-looking texture of that wood, washed clean of its bark by Superior's water action. The forces of Mother Nature can do amazing things!

I'll bet this is out east of Gay as I have a pic of my wife sitting "in" this very treee. Will check, but we thought it was so amazing, we took pics with her in it.

You guys certainly give us a lot of choices for our background pictures!! These big trees have a history: where is it from? What birds made nests in the branches? Why did it fall? Was it a good shade? Which storm washed it up? How long did it drift in the lake? It's like seeing an old old house that is falling down...you wonder if the walls could talk, what would they tell us...

Lake Superior looks cool refreshing in the picture today. We are looking forward to another day of heat and humidity, but that is what makes our corn grow!

It sure would be nice to spend a day on the beach. I am heading to the UP in a week for a class reunion, and am looking forward to be by Lake Michigan in the summer. That is where I grew up. Hopefully I will be able to get up to Lake Superior by Munising too. Miss the Great Lakes in the summer. Wish I could make the Pasty Fest too.

When I was in high school we would get a date, bring hotdogs and road pop. We would go to Lake Superior in the evening and have a wonderful picnic. Unfortunatly, we burnt driftwood to have a huge bonfire. Todays picture would have been a goner. But, then again it is a renewable resource.

I agree with Captain Video. That stump looks best just where it is. What if some fugie tourist, a few days before this picture was taken, decided that they wanted this stump in their front yard and took it. Then all the Pasty Cam viewers would have to look at is a "nice" hole in the beach. If you see something nice on the beach or in the forest, PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE so that others can enjoy.

While walking the beach or rambling through the woods I`ve collected numerous items over the years. Their on display all over my digs. It`s what I call "affordable art".
I will continue to do so.

A friend of mine from Trimountain was walking the beach
between Agate Beach Park and Rockhouse Point a few years ago
and saw a bear on the beach.

As he approached, he saw further that it was a dead frozen bear
standing on the beach! It was late winter/early spring. I would
have loved to have a picture of that!

Oh, I forgot to say that the bear was frozen in the remainder of
the ice bergs that were slowly melting on shore. The bear was
standing in the ice, frozen in. No telling how long he had been
there.

We used to call them "ice banks", I don't know what they are
called now-a-days.

This is just too cool a story to keep hidden.

This upside down tree was normal a 100 years ago, but soon , radio , t.v. and the internet made it seek the solitude of the old days.It flipped ! buried it's crown 60 feet deep. I seek the peace and quiet that this photo relates and may all of us that live in the Keweenaw continue enjoy .

AND TRY NOT TO TELL ANOTHER SOUL...........lol
