My, my, Mary, you are the early bird today! Most sensible folks still have their heads under the covers! With two early birds this week I may have to start a worm farm!
First Post
Sue - I bet Mary was sound asleep, too. She prepares the weekday feature the evening before, and I have the honor of hitting the 'publish' switch. A personal note follows...

It was a pleasant weekend in the U.P... but we received reports of more wintry conditions downstate, like this 'almost live' shot from Joe Hurley in Brighton:

Meanwhile, here in the Copper Country we enjoyed a visit to the new Copper Country Humane Society building, and their open house:

Congratulations to all the volunteers who worked so hard to see this wonderful new facility become a reality.

By the way, if you're in Mohawk next Sunday afternoon, don't miss the Spaghetti dinner at the School, sponsored by the Keweenaw Lions Club. I just happen to have some tickets... email me for info.

Susan, So how's that worm collection of yours going? ;)

Good morning everyone. Gosh, is my work week off to a weird start already or what. Usually this is the time of the morning that I am headed to bed...but I am backwards today, and I am rising at this beautiful hour.

Cooper Country, congrats on your new Humane Society. Humane Society volunters are the best :)

If you have the pattern for that lovely quilt hanging on the wall...please advise. Someone is doing some beautiful work. Did they auction this quilt off? It appears there may be a pattern attached to the quilt.

Am thinking of baking some "surprise muffins". Anyone out there listen to NPR "All Things Considered"? Years ago there was a commentator, Kim Williams, from Missoula Mt. who was a...well, how should I put this...an adventurous, gastronomically inclined naturalist. She said no matter how lost you are, what time of year etc, you can always survive in the wild. i.e. some part of cattails are edible at any time of the year. Anyways, to make a long story short, (I know, already too late!) she frequently surprised her hubby with unusual feasts. One time I remember in particular, was the "surprise muffins"...get those worms, clean them, dice them, saute them and into the muffins they go! YUM! (it's those little crunchy bits you have to watch out for!) Muffins for breakfast, anyone? :)

Susan,

Thank you so much for the chuckle about surprise muffins. With the work I am doing today, I definately needed the chuckle.
Anywho, with this naturalist, I bet cricket season made for some really crunchy muffins, eh. Bet when you sit down to a meal made by this 'chef', asking the question, "so what all did you put in this" is a required question...or do you dare ask.

By Chuck, Clarkston on Monday, April 25, 2005 - 07:33 am:

11-12 inches of heavy wet snow here in Clarkston, just north of Pontiac, this morning. More in the thumb. Trees down and power out in some areas.

Eeeewwww! Hope all are safe. Love the ice formations. By the way, we had same conditions during spring break with the trees in bloom and snow on the ground.

I wanted to mention that yes, yesterday was a snowy day here in lower Michigan. This is what KodiSue and I saw just before going for our run on the trails. Today it is sunny and most of the 5" we got is melted...

Never remember it snowing downstate this late into
the Spring. It looked more like December. The sun
was sure a good sight this morning and the melting
of all the snow. Hope the sunshine lasts for awhile.

Just a sidenote to Sunday's Shoebox Memory and discussion. Someone mentioned having a wooden box of dynamite in their basement as a kid. It just so happens I have an end of one of those boxes hanging right here in my office! Neat artifact...

Where is the new Humane Society building located? Thanks.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Monday, April 25, 2005 - 11:05 pm:

Probably the last note of the day, but what's with the Michigan License Plates stating: Michigan, The Professional Choice.

By R Somero CA on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 - 01:48 am:
