Beverly,
Each "Big Picture" has a mouseover which usually shows the photographer's name. Today's photo was taken by Joyce Tormala.
When the Pasty Cam started over 7 years ago, virtually all of the daily pictures were taken by Jonathan Hopper, my son, who had just discovered digital photography. Then I tried my hand, occassionally adding a shot or two, and Daryl Laitila joined our full time staff, providing even more local scenes. As the site began to gain a regular following of folks desiring a daily reminder of the U.P., others joined in with their handiwork: Dan Urbanski, Steve Brimm, Charlie Eshbach, Joe Kirkish to name a few. Then we started seeing more beautiful daily pictures from a second wave of talent, like Rick Anderson, Don de Yampert, Z-Man, Peg Riemer, Jon Jacobson and others. Finally, when we added the Guest Gallery in 2003, a virtually army of photographers was added - now approaching 300 in number, with over 20,000 photos uploaded. I spent some time last night browsing through the albums and slideshows... What a treasury of virtual tours of the U.P.! Joyce Tormala is among that crop of artist individuals who share the beauty with us.
Each month when we have our final-day memorial, I think of Dan Urbanski, whose passing last summer was a profound loss to the Pasty Central family. It is encouraging every month to welcome so many new faces who are becoming a part of this daily journey.
