Today's shot is somewhere in the U.P. I can hear you all moaning right now, thinking, "no kidding, Mary!" It's not really a waterfall or maybe it could be classified as one, but since it only flows like this during the Springtime or after a good heavy rainfall, it wouldn't make the list of the most visited in the North Country. Steve Haagen found this little gem, gushing into Lake Superior on a recent drive to check out how their property, along with a camper, made it through the winter. This one had me stumped as to where it was taken, with my guess way off. Let's see how well the Pasty Cam viewers know their geography of the area. Where in the U.P. is Steve Haagen?

By kosk in Toronto on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 06:21 am:

Somewhere on Presque Isle?

By dick, fl on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 06:38 am:

I don't know where it is but it is the wrong kind of rock for Presque Isle.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 06:40 am:

Look at that blue water!

By julie b., MI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 06:46 am:

OK, i'll admit this is strictly a SWAG - but out toward Freda & Redridge?

By Carole on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 06:59 am:

Out along the Gay road near Brunette Park? The rock formation does look familiar.

Job well done!

By Bob on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 07:28 am:

looks to me to be near that little park along the east shore of the keweenaw between Gay and Bete Gris

By Sarah, Little Betsy on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 07:31 am:

Definitely on the Little Betsy side of Brunette Park! I love that red sandstone!

By Dave da Troll on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 07:31 am:

My guess is between Presque Isle and the Huron Mountain Club Property in Marquette Co.

By Brita on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 07:36 am:

WOW!!

By Brent, on a sunny sunny day in UPstate, NY on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 07:49 am:

Light frost on the barn roof and the bunnies in my wife's garden are starting to venture forth. Little brown balls of fluff peeking at you from under the daffodils.

By John / New Hampshire on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:00 am:

I'm thinking that Steve is a little north of south entry. (And good morning everyone!)

By alicia, mi. on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:13 am:

Look at Steve's album number 5. The photo of the church in Phoenix is a double wow.

By Alex Tiensivu, Georgia on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:16 am:

WHAT A SHOT! AWESOME!

By maijaMI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:18 am:

SWAG? A drape pulled away from a window?

By maijaMI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:19 am:

wonderful picture no matter where it is

By julie b., MI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:22 am:

maijaMI-
Actually this is an accounting term which means:
SILLY WILD A** GUESS

Yes, i know, us accountants are weird!

By Sarah, Central WI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:37 am:

Oh, to be putting my tootsies in that cold, cold water. *sigh* Beautiful picture!

By Pam, Fruitport on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:51 am:

My Guess was Huron Mt. Club area... looks like molten rock I walk on where the road ends next to the Marina in Big Bay.... I agree with others around Marquette/Huron Mt. Club area/Lake area along 550 to Big Bay.... I've walked on similar looking rock in all these areas... Thanks Steve for FABULOUS picture!!!

By Mel, Kansas on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 08:55 am:

Actually looks to me like there's some of the Jacobsville red sandstone underneath the water there, so my guess is up around Big Betsy/Gay on the eastern side of the Keweenaw. Been out there to the 'beach' a few times - great place to wade around.

By Lyn R on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 09:33 am:

Steve, Nice photo album.

My guess is Big Bay. I have many photos of the B.B. shoreline and they resemble the photo above.

By Jim Pykonen/Washington on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 09:44 am:

Not sure where taken but beautifull all the same. I can taste the purest air on earth right now!

By Shelley , Corunna, MI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 10:03 am:

Lovely picture. Being a "troll" who lives under the bridge, I have no clue where this was taken, but it is an awesome sight, just the same. Am counting the days until my vacation to the Keewenaw this summer!

By woody from copper city on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 10:06 am:

seems like the weather is getting warmer, has anyone in pasty land heard if the steelhead are running yet?

By JKal on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 10:07 am:

Lots and lots of these little "waterfalls" in the Pictured Rocks region around Munising/Grand Marais.

Just for fun trying laying underneath one of these.... BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrr.

jK

By Missin the UP from NJ on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 10:43 am:

Good morning!
This picture is so beautiful! I see it as a reminder to take time today -- to go out and 'see' one beautiful fleeting thing! Each of us has something we could take note of and enjoy that will be gone to the next season in a few days or weeks. For me it's the view of NYC as I drive over the little mountain we live behind. Soon the leaves will be out and that everchanging skyline will be hiding behind the leaves. Then, the wild Dogwoods will be in bloom all through the woods here...
How wonderful that these falls are there to 'show off' for those who take the time to notice.

By Dave, Colorado on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 10:56 am:

Steve, You have a great album! Thanks for sharing your photos.

By Don again in Mqt on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 11:07 am:

The light sandstone is lying over the red Jacobsville sandstone and may well be some of the Munising formation sandstone of the Pictured rocks so I will bet that it is somewhere between Munising and Marquette?

By Cindy in Calumet on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 11:28 am:

Steve, your pictures are just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

By Lyn on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 11:42 am:

Steves photo album info:
Eagle River, WI / Gay, MI
Owner: Steve Haagen

If Steve was coming from E.R. Wisconsin to Gay, MI then it has to be some place in between. That would rule out Munising, Mqt & Big Bay.

By Julia, MI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 11:56 am:

my first guess was jacobsville out by the lighthouse but if he wasn't in that region i would say by pictured rocks in munising

By den on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 11:56 am:

Could it be the Misery Bay area? Just a wild guess. Great Photo where ever it is:)

By Carole on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 12:04 pm:

I still say it is near Brunette Park.

By Stix out West on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 12:37 pm:

Julia, mi. I spend my summers out in Jacobsville and use the sandstone in my driftwood and stone art (www.stixnstonzart.com). By far, the majority of the sandstone by South entry and up the bay is the deep red, very little white. So, I highly doubt it's from the Jacobsville area. What fun this is but when can we cry "give" and get the answer!!!!

Mary says: I was just thinking the same thing, Stix, I wonder how long I should let the guessing continue?!! Well, since I have a few more pressing things to do right now, then it will have to be a bit later this afternoon! Isn't the suspense just eating away at you? :->

By lmr in hancock on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 12:58 pm:

In the Bay Furnace Park they have some of this kind of rock.
No matter where it is, the picure is just great.

By Paul on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 12:58 pm:

Oliver bay, south of Point Isabelle

Bird Houses

By Stix out West on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 02:12 pm:

What a great way to advertise the birdhouses!! Great background.

By Brian Wellwood, Sunfield MI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 02:22 pm:

I have taken many photos of this "mini falls". I've called it Red Rock Falls based on all the red rock in the area. If I am correct, it's several miles north of Gay on the north side of a park.

By danbury on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 02:33 pm:

As birdhouses go, different birds need different constructions, so make sure to get one suitable for the birds you got - if available. More important, don't forget to clean them out once a year - just like cleaning your own bedsheets once in a while.

By NORM SARASOTA on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 04:00 pm:

THE PICTURELOOKS LIKE THE MONTREAL RIVER WHERE IT ENTERS LAKE SUPERIOR ON THE SOUTH SHORE JUST DOWN FROM THE POINT YOU CAN SEE IT FROM ACROSS THE BAY ON THE LITTE BETSY ROAD I HOPE IM CORRECT.

By Dave, Colorado on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 04:07 pm:

Daryl:
I love those bird houses... may just need to get one for our yard... Are they weather-proof?

By Stix out West on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 04:30 pm:

Oh, come on........put us out of our misery and TELL us where the pic is from!!!! I give!

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 04:39 pm:

Sorry about the delay in revealing the location, but the day just seemed to get away from me too quickly....
Carole, who posted #6, after my post this morning, was the first correct answer so she's been given the A+ award for being so smart! It was taken at Brunette Park on the Gay-Lac la Belle Road northeast of Gay.
I, like a number of other guesses, first thought Pictured Rocks area in Munising! :->

By Daryl Laitila on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 04:40 pm:

Of course the bird houses are weather proof and the bottom comes off for cleaning. You may securely order them on our site or call toll free to place an order 1-800-327-0966 M-F 9 to 5pm. I'll get back to you all later about where the photo was taken. Thanks for asking.

By Mel, Kansas on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 04:42 pm:

That's the place I was talking about. Didn't know the name of it though. Just walked the beach there a few times, and climbed around on the rocks in the photo while looking for blueberries. Have a couple of small sandstone rocks sitting here on my desk from that very place.

By Beverly, San Jose on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 04:43 pm:

I think this picture is just north of Jacobsville.

By Carole on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 07:05 pm:

Are the gifts available at Still Waters? I will be up the first of June and would like to see some of the items.

By Doug - Brookville, OH on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 09:34 pm:

Just want to toss out a plug for the bird houses. I ordered one for my wife a couple weeks back and currently have it stashed at the office till next weekend. I took a look at it when it arrived and it's great. I have no doubts that she will be thrilled with it.

By Steve,WI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 11:32 pm:
