There's something about a full moon rising into the night sky, especially when there are no leaves to block the view of its ascent. Frederic W. Koski caught one in action with a light cloud covering, framing it beautifully. According to my Old Farmer's Almanac, there will be a Penumbral Eclipse of the moon on Sunday morning, beginning the umbral phase at 3:50 EDT and leaving penumbra at 8:00 a.m. EDT. It should be visible in North America and Hawaii, with the end visible in western North America and Hawaii. Before you go setting your alarm clock to check out this phenomenon, let me warn you that during this type of lunar eclipse, the moon just passes through the Earth's penumbral (partial) shadow and is difficult to observe because the shadow is quite weak. This makes it somewhat of a subtle eclipse, which if you aren't specifically watching for, you won't notice it happening. Unfortunately my Almanac just says North America for visibility, with no specifics. I might just have to take a nap this afternoon, so I can get up and see what can be observed from my back porch!

Good morning from Mishawaka IN. Beautiful picture. Looks like a good Halloween moon. Toivo, take the nap, thats what you do on a cold windy day at least I do. We might see some snow showers here in northern Indiana and I'll be snoozing.

Beautiful pic Fredric. Full moons are so fasinating to look at. If the weather's not too cold, I love sitting out on our back deck and gazing at the moon.

I didn't know... down here in Muskegon area it is overcast, cloudy and snow/rain on and off all day, night and tomorrow.... I will visualize an opening in the cloud cover tonight... We are supposed to be able to see the moon here in Missouri tonight. Don't think that I will be out checking it out tho. Supposed to be frost warnings here tonight. Its only 48 here and the wind is really got a bite to it.
The picture of the moon is nice. I have to agree with some of the others that say the moon doesn't look the same here as it does up there.

Technically, Sunday, April 24th, starts at midnight tonight and continues for 24 hours until midnight again, which of course becomes Monday, April 25th. So that would make viewing possible in the wee hours of the morning tonight. Is that an oxymoron? :->

I have tried to capture the moon on film but never got it right, but that picture is great, and it looks like you have had a great day in the c.c., down here it is cold, damp, and snow is forcast for tonight, it is always damp down here and not the dry cold you get up there. All have a good night.

It is a cool 55 degrees today. Last night we had a bad thundrstorm.In the middle of this black stormy sky there was a small hole in the clouds thru which this extremely bright sun shown thru.It lit up the store fronts in the mall. We sat there and watched till the sun set.Took some photos on a disposabe. Hope they turn out.

Not only is this a WOW... It should be on next year's calander. I just love it. It's my wallpaper at the moment!
