The meltdown continues here in the Keweenaw. Of course you have to remember there were some substantial snow accumulations to melt away! That's something I'm going to have to remember next winter when the snow is piling up, that it makes for a great Spring run-off, creating some beautiful, roaring falls to while away the hours watching. Two of our Guest Gallery Pasty Camists ventured out in search of some scenery recently. Checking out their photo data, it looks like Marv & Ellie Hopf and Jamie Harter took these slightly different angle shots, just a day apart from each other. Funny that a person could stand there and stare at water rushing over a falls like this one and feel peace and calm, when in all reality, the cascading beauty is exerting quite the forceful power!

By Charlie H., Eagle River, MI on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 06:54 am:

Conditions sure change rapidly this time of year. On Friday there was still snow around the falls, and this morning it's mostly gone. As the Pasty Cam is being published, there's a warm wind blowing here in Eagle River (actually a howling wind), and soon the snow and ice will be totally a memory.

Today's photos reminds me of that little animated shot of the falls, somewhere back in the archives. It just keeps on flowing...

what a rush

Today is the last day of my spring break. These pictures are wonderful...makes me lonesome for the Black River Falls ouside of Ironwood.

By Becca on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 07:28 am:

Spectacular - thank you.

By Denguy, Colorado on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 07:47 am:

Your snow is disappearing and ours just arrived! Over 22 inches in just 24 hours, with 35 mph winds. It's not all bad, we have a "snow-day" from work. Weatherman says that it will be 67 degrees on Thursday. Ahhhh, spring time in the Rockies!

Beautiful Pictures this Morning. One Question... can anyone tell me how to get back the animation? I had it before and really miss not seeing the falls and Yoopers little animations. Thanks... Heading to Sacramento in the morning. I will get to see their Beautiful State and of course, our beautiful grandsons. I will keep in touch on Pasty.com while I am gone.

By Missin the UP from NJ on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 09:33 am:

Mornin' all!
I was thinkin' that the falls is showing what Spring does to most of us. We suddenly are inspired to plant things, do stuff that waited all winter, exercise outdoors even more- walk around smiling! Kinda like a rushing waters of human creativity! Ain't Spring wonderful?!!
LOVED the pics today! Thanks!

By wondering?? on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 10:35 am:

Where are these Falls in Eagle River?? Would love to see them in person. Don't recall any with a house in the background!

Try this to get Yooper's animation on this webpage. This works for Windows XP ( probably other Windows also). Click tools in upper toolbar of Internet Explorer. From dropdown menu select Internet Options.Select the Advanced Tab. Scroll down to the Multimedia section. Make sure that there is a checkmark on option to show animation in webpages. This should do the trick!

to denguy in Colorado Hey send some of that snow over to the Western slope... Being an ex Yooper. I really missed not seeing snow this year...

By pegg,fla on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 01:19 pm:

Is there a website that has Keweenaw waterfalls with maps that anyone knows about?

By Roudy Mi on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 01:47 pm:

There my be , but we always try to keep a few secret ones for ourselves.

By Roudy Mi on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 01:49 pm:

That should be "may", but if your being possessive the MY works too.

By Mary Lou on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 02:07 pm:

Just to remind all "Yoopers" to watch the Miss USA Pagent tonight. "Miss Michigan USA", Crystal Hayes, who grew up in Rock will be in competition for the title ..... her family still lives on a farm in Rock. She is very nice and a beautiful girl.
(someone mentioned she is Finnish and has a grandma in Hancock).

By JAD, O on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 02:12 pm:

the Eagle River falls is on the right hand side of the bridge as you enter town from the South. You can't see the falls from the bridge, very unfortunate. There is a parking area on the right side after you cross and you can walk out on the
old bridge (which is an historic structure) to view the falls. Don't forget to turn away from the falls and view the structure of the "new" wooden bridge.
Re maps, I believe at one time the Chamber of Commerce put out a map guide to waterfalls. Check out www.keweenaw.org or westernup.com

Wow. I wonder how many pictures were taken of these falls in the past week? I will be adding mine to my gallery tonight, and I know John Dee has some in his journal. This was the first time I have seen these falls when there was more than just a trickle coming over. Simply incredible. Later, Skylar.

By Ellen,Sunrise Side,Mi on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 03:59 pm:

Hi Mark (copper harbor)
I did what you said and it was checked. The one box that was not checked was "Show image download placeholders"?? I had animation before so it is really puzzling.. I have even moved animations to Incredimail and had no problem with them. Thanks for your help. E.

Water Fall season. One can always depend on Pasty.com and John Dee sites for the annual fix!

By FLYIN on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 09:33 pm:

Eagle River? Gonna miss you all for a few days, but I have to butler (read go on vacation) with the lovely Linda in FL. See you next week as the black flies put on weight and the snow becomes only a recent memory......Only spring I got to enjoy in da UP was a river ride up the Sturgeon from Chassell. First boat on the river that year......lots and lots of water....later...Off to Sun and Fun......

By Dave da troll on Monday, April 11, 2005 - 09:35 pm:

Yep it is waterfall season! It's a great time to see the falls; between now and mid May. Eagle River Falls always has a decent flow, but now is the time to see Hungarian Falls above Lake Linden; in summer it dries up to a trickle.

After May the skeeters, deerflies, and blackflies make hiking less than ideal until mid August. I remember about ten years ago when I hiked out to the Montreal River Falls in late May; the dang skeeters were so loud you could hear the whine of their wings as they buzzed around my camcorder! Of course if you're looking for a really good aerobic workout...

By Shelley Trowbridge, Corunna, MI on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - 01:14 pm:

Love the pictures of the falls! Especially the moving one! Hope everyone up there is experiencing the same unseasonably warm weather we have been having here in the lower half! Have a great week! Shelley

By Ronald, Oregon on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - 09:49 pm:

To Colorado Therese and Denguy. I lived in Denver for many
years and now in Oregon for many more (after leaving the Yoop).
You really got hammered with snow this week. Please remember
that you will get one more snow of ten inches on May 10th.
Happens every year.... Nice to see bare ground in the U.P.
though. I will be in Toivola to feed the bugs over July 4th. I'll be
bringing fresh bug feed from the west coast.

By Tom Ann Arbor Mi on Saturday, April 16, 2005 - 09:57 pm:

Great picture of the falls. Our camp is a couple camps away from
the falls. I never get to see the falls like that because we always
stay up there for the month of Aug. When we go, i can take my 5
and 8 year old up the mouth of the river and rock walk all the
way to the falls, then climb to the top.

By Audrey Miller on Monday, April 18, 2005 - 01:00 pm:

The camp (old house) that you see at the top of eagle river falls (in the bend) is my husbands family camp. which is the BEST PLACE ON EARTH. We spend all vacation moments there, going to sleep with the waterfall music, Wonderful Wonderful town and place to hang your vacation hat!
