We are often in such a hurry to get from one place to another in our busy lives, that we pass by little gems of nature without even realizing what we've missed. But thanks to Mike Schneider, there are three of those gems that we won't miss today.
He starts with the sunrise illuminating a small chunk of ice that settled into the crook of a tree branch. A sparkling gem that could be aptly labeled a Yooper diamond. Next, Mike spotted a puddle that had crusted over with ice, but not just any puddle...this one was from Lake Superior waves, so therefore, it's Superior ice. And the final gem, is a rock that was in the middle of a creek, with ice beginning to accumulate over the top. Reminds me of a mountain top, covered with snow.
Mike himself summed up his photos quite well: "I think it's the simple things in nature that are so easy to walk by or step over, that go unnoticed... it's these little things I think are just so magical and the UP holds so many."

For a second there, I thought that third one was Mt. Rainier (out here in Washington state). Amazing how it looks like a mountain! Great shots.
