How can you determine if the 2009 photo is looking east or west?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 07:55 am:

As I'm looking at Houghton Beach, it looks as if it's looking east.

Happy Hump Day!

By Jim (Jhattica) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 07:57 am:

I think south-east, Hancock is on the left front,
Houghton on right center

I guess to technically answer the question, I can tell by looking at Houghton Beach!

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 07:59 am:

Tech is it the top of the photo, so you are looking east.

The canal runs east-west. The building shadows fall to the left. The sun is always to the south when the shadows are perpindicular to the canal. Ergo, the photo was taken looking east.

Very astute observations, Logicmaster

Remembering my dad today R.L. Johnson, 11/23/15 - 11/23/88. Today, 96 years ago he entered this world. Today, 23 years ago he left my world. Always in my thoughts.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 08:06 am:

Thank God we have some wonderful memories of our parents after they're gone. I'm coming up on 3 years for my dad, and you can't help but think about them. Hugs to you, Janie!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 08:09 am:

So right Deb! Memories, that's how our loved ones who have gone on before us, stay with us.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 08:41 am:

Must be Gremlins in the system, Charlie. One click, two posts.

BTW...2005 is today's favorite.

By Donna (Donna) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 09:04 am:

I'm w/Alex on this one...2005 is stellar!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 10:03 am:

Gettin' a little testy there, huh, Charlie?;) Maybe Alex has a stuttering problem.
Hugs to you, Janie T. My dad 'went home' 18yrs ago at the age of 92.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 10:52 am:

JT...you should have posted your profile pic of your dad holding you when you were young. The expression on his face was classic.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 11:02 am:

Charlie, how 'bout some good ol' American History and/or English/Literature questions....those were my 'majors'. Something that can be answered without havin' to 'point' fingers?;)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 01:26 pm:

Alex, dad had some pretty classic expression as well during my 15th - 18th birthdays! :)

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 03:00 pm:

Great, especially the Splash Spray.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 03:42 pm:

I'm a bit early but just wanted to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.

I always have this song in my head when Thanksgiving gets near, but now I'm the grandmother! :)

Over the river and through the wood
To Grandmother's house we go.
The horse knows the way
To carry the sleigh
Through white and drifted snow.

Over the river and through the wood
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes
And bites the nose,
As over the ground we go.

Over the river and through the wood
To have a first-rate play.
Hear the bells ring,
Ting-a-ling-ling!
Hurrah forThanksgiving Day!

Over the river and through the wood,
Trot fast, my dapple gray!
Spring over the ground
Like a hunting hound,
For this is Thanksgiving Day.

Over the river and through the wood,
And straight through the barnyard gate.
We seem to go
Extremely slow~
It is so hard to wait!

Over the river and through the wood~
Now Grandmother's cap I spy!
Hurrah for fun!
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!

By Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 04:34 pm:

That's funny, Hollidays. I was thinking of this song today also. Great minds, I guess.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 04:57 pm:

I've always loved that song, Hollidays! We sang that every year when I was in ES.....and yeah, sometimes we had snow in TN, for Thanksgiving and Christmas....seems all they have now is ICE!

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 05:27 pm:

I always think of that song too! We learned it in school, but I don't think we ever learned the whole thing. Nice to see all of it.

Every year at our school on the day before Thanksgiving we had a Thanksgiving program. The whole school gathered in the gym and brought bags of new or good used clothing and canned goods to donate to those in need. Our Superintendent, Mr. Martin led the songs. That's were I learned that song.
