Winter has arrived here in the Keweenaw and so has the end of another month. So we pause today and honor the memory of loved ones and friends that have passed on before us.

George Hite
Lorraine Racine Horsma
Mervin Klemett
Theodore "Papa" Kokko
Eugene Monticello
Servicemen and women who have given their all

In case you missed it earlier this month, Charlie posted a message about the death of George Hite, saying: "George was quite instrumental in the creation of Pasty Central, back in the early days of the Internet, as we were inspired by his "Eagle Harbor Web", which pre-dated the Pasty Cam, now the longest-running daily picture/website in Michigan." Our 2012 Pasty Cam Calendar also includes a tribute to George, and another nice remembrance is on the Mudminnow Press blog, by Lesley DuTemple.

Please feel free to add the names of those near and dear, that you would like to remember. Special thanks to John Ponchaud for the sunset here today, as we pause to remember.

Remembering my dad, R.L. Johnson, and my Doberman Pinscher, Lucky. Dad served in WWII and had great admiration for the service dogs during that era. I'm sure dad and Lucky are the best of friends.

Remembering my Dad, George Kentala, who left us in August. Miss you Dad.

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 - 07:25 am:

George Hite was one of the first writers I recall seeing on the Internet when it was brand new. He and Pasty Central and Sharon Smith and John Dee were all "blogging" long before the word was even invented.

By Donna (Donna) on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 - 10:45 am:

SAFELY HOME

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! But Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth--
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the pleasure of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 - 01:55 pm:

Striking photo! Does anyone see the old mans face (the face of God?) facing down to the lower left corner? His eyes are closed, you can see the nose with white moustache, his ear can be seen thru the frizzy hair that is sticking up, further down in the lower right corner are his hands praying!--
(Actually looks like Alfred Einstein--no?)

In rememberance of my step-dad Robert L. Smith of Clinton Twp. who passed away on this date in 1999.

It's sad and difficult to lose a family member or friend but for some of us losing a pet is equally painful. On this Nov. 3rd we lost our beloved yellow Lab "Patty" at only 10 years old. I have trouble accepting what the vets tell me that the lifespan of these type dogs is only 10-14 years.
Some of you may remember a few years ago (07) we lost Pattys Mom & Aunt within a months time. I remember the kind consoling words from several of you then! We were so grateful though that we had the daughters of the mom "Wiggles" to carry on. Now one of them is gone and all left of that family is Pattys sister "Spooky" ---who is doing fine so far at 9 years old :)

Sorry this is late but I meant to mention George Hite in my 'rememberings' yesterday. My husband, Frank, whom some of you know departed this year, loved the writings of George. We both felt, after reading some of George's entries, the need to give him a 'standing ovation'. That's how interesting and refreshing his words were. We'll miss you George!
