Basketball season is upon us, at least for the 7th graders it is. Michelle Jeffery was on hand in Lake Linden, to snap some pictures of her son Gavin (#25) and his team, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes, as they took on the Baraga Vikings. Plenty of action on the floor with these youngsters as they get into the game with lay-ups, passing and learning the ins and outs of the game. It's great to see our young folks involved in extra curricular activities like this, as it builds character, teaches them teamwork and most importantly, keeps them busy so they have less time to get in trouble. Let's encourage them to stay involved, by cheering them on.... GO LAKES!!

GO LAKES!!!!

Boy...I remember when I first moved to Baraga...and I went to a Lake Linden/Baraga BBall game w/some friends that came down for it...and I was used to the Lake's homegames (those were pretty much the only games I went to, when I lived there)...and didn't realize they switch uniforms while playing away games. Baraga's "Home" games uniforms, look like Lake Linden's Home game attire, and Baraga scored and I went off like a bomb to cheer...only to realize all the Lake's fans were looking at me...and I stopped and shrugged my shoulders and said "WHAT? They scored"....then heard "THAT was Baraga! They change uniforms for Away games"....Since then...I wait to see if my other peeps are cheering first or not...LOL!!!

(And, I gotta tell you...I graduated in 1976, and one of the folks that looked at me was Mrs. Codere, who was my math teacher when I was in school....my first thought was, "Oh no..detention"...LOL...Yeah...I spent a bit of time with her after regular school hours! LOL And to this day will say she was the BEST teacher of all of them.....)

Donna.... That sounds like a blonde story. Are you.....?

LOL! Donna, that is toooo funny!:D Speaking of uniforms....can anyone tell me why they lengthened the shorts in the game of basketball?
I want to take a little space here to thank all of you for your good wishes, condolences and offers of help on here yesterday! I retired to my bed last night with an uplifted spirit and a warm heart! Thank you all and God bless!:)

Good Morning. Shirley, my heart goes out to you! I will never forget when my Daddy died (in 1985); my parents had been married for 53 years. My Mom was really lost without him. It didn't help that his doctor was from the Middle East, where they have a different culture; he told her, as soon as my Daddy was diagnosed with terminal cancer, that she should sell their home right then. Really? That was just crazy & awful of him; it sent her into a depression that took her a long time to work out of.

I still miss both of my parents deeply. (Mom died in 1991, before I got pregnant with my youngest son.) And I suspect you miss your husband even more than I miss my loving parents! Hugs to you! I know how hard the holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter are without them, and even Valentine's Day. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hugs, Marianne in mid-Michigan

PS Sorry, this post should have gone in What's Up. Charlie, please move it if you want to. Thank you.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 10:51 am:

Thank you, Marianne. Such an unfortunate situation....my husband's lung dr is also from that region, and had the same 'bedside manner'. The last office visit my husband had with him was the day before he entered the hospital for the last time. The dr told him that he should make preparations like deciding if Frank would want to "be resusitated the next time he was in the hospital". I really do believe he gave up his fight because of that.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 11:51 am:

I'm really sorry you had to go through all of that! Remember we're here for you! And, I do know that all of the holidays, plus his birthday and your anniversary will all be very tough! Take care, and reach out to us! Hugs, Marianne

ETA And to the rest of us: if you get married on a holiday or whatever, that makes it ever so much harder if your spouse were to pass away on that day. My parents got married on Christmas Eve, so that destroyed Christmas for my Mom for the rest of her life.

Always liked to play basketball. In high school and college,I was too
slow, and not tall enough. I do remember breaking my nose on the
rim of the basketball hoop.....my knees just hurt thinking I'd get
that high.

Do you think they'll play the Harlem Globetrotters?
