I think it's safe to say that winter has arrived here in the Copper Country. Looking out my window here in Lake Linden, I'd say there's a good foot of snow on the ground and it all came in one day.... what a difference a day makes, right?

Liz Siivola was out and about in Calumet and made her way to the Swedetown ski trails for some photos and a bit of skiing as well. She said the trails weren't groomed yet, but definitely skiable anyway. When the snow covers the trees like this, it makes for a picture perfect post card scene. So, even though it means added time to our daily duties for snow removal, it is pretty to sit back and enjoy the view.

I personally find these pictures absolutely beautiful!

Beautiful yes, but cold! Funny (not 'ha-ha') how age changes one's view of snow.:>

Actually they are quite beautiful. I always like the first snow of the year; so clean and white it almost looks like cotton on the trees.

I love the snow now just as much as I did as a kid, maybe even more now since I love snowmobiling.

The first snows are simply stunning...but scary to drive in.....remember to slow down folks....the first snow removes a layer of oils off the blacktop and really makes for slippery driving...Be careful!

It looked yesterday (on Tech's web cams) like the Michigan Tech Trails were partially groomed, and I saw one guy out skiing on a trail yesterday.

I might add that Tech's trails are up on top of the ridge in Houghton, while most of the University is at the level of the Portage, in a valley, so to speak.

Very serene and quiet looking and like Jeremiah Johnson once said "Nothing wrong with quiet."

WOW Liz, those are beautiful shots. Lucky you that you were able to be there. I love Swedetown. The skiing is always so spectacular there. Great quote Alex!

shirley...... yes, " jeremiah johnson " is in my top five all-time favorite movies, and the book entitled " the mountain man " by vardis fisher is a great read, and gives a much clearer insight into johnson's relationship with his surroundings, if you like the movie you'll love the book.

Janie, just a point of view. I've always loved snow since I was a little girl. Still do but at my age it's nice looking out the window too. Think of this when you're in your 70's. Still love the feel of flakes landing on my face and tongue. And the soft silence of it coming down at nighttime.

Kay..I'm planning on still riding my snowmobile as far into my years that I can. The only thing that would prevent this would be my trusty snowmobile breaks down, but then a quick fix would be to replace it! My glass is half full. :)
