Joe Kirkish was out on a recent frosty morning, collecting photographs of what remains of the flowers, leaves and shoreline sticks, before they get completely covered for the next four months or so. A last burst of color for us all to enjoy, before everything turns to white for the winter months. Mother nature has a nice way of easing us into this next chilly season, with the frost covering everything that lays on the ground and the cold frosty air, making our breath come out in puffs of steam. Of course we already had one taste of winter, but for the most part, that has melted away, making room for the next snowy event, which is scheduled to make its appearance today. Thanks for preserving some colors for us, Joe!

Beautiful pics today! Love the raspberry-colored mum shot. Also got introduced above to a new (for me) website: Yooper Steez, and now I know what "Steez" is! I'll be Facebooking it later.

I love all of the frosty pictures - thank you Joe & Mary! I especially like the frosty raspberry mums, frosty rose, gorgeous rocks, and frosty leaves. Yes, it is all of them. :-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 08:57 am:

Oh my, what beautiful pictures! At first quick glance the mums look like frost covered raspberries. More wonders of God's handiwork! Thank you for going out in the cold, Joe.:)

If you know how and where to look, there is beauty any where you look. I'm delighted every time I enter my front door. My pride and joy right now is a jackmanti clematis vine next to my door on a pretty metal trellis. When I redid my flower bed this summer I got a purple flowering vine. And it was well worth every penny I paid for it. Right now it has about 6 buds and at least 15 stunning flowers blooming. As cold as it is (upper 20's) it keeps on blooming purple beauty! Thanks for your shots outdoors.

Marsha - YooperSteez has a nice selection of UP, Lake Superior and Sisu gear. The hoodies are great quality - I've had one for a year (or two?) and it's thick, warm & durable.

Love the frost photos. We had our first 'real' snowfall yesterday afternoon. (Real meaning it stuck around for more than an hour.) I think winter has finally arrived.

By Helen Marie Chamberlain (Helen) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 09:15 am:

Shirley, how odd...when Joe's pics opened for me I thought the first one was raspberries, too!
Thanks, Joe, for the beautiful pics. What presentation!

Aptly named flower color, huh, Helen?:)

By David C Cloutier (Dccloutier) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 09:59 am:

Very nice work Joe!

Sure looks like raspberries doesn't it. Great pictures.

I like the last picture, it reminds me of bugs and/or critters, that disguise themselves as tree limbs or twigs.

By Evelyn Delongchamp (Onceayooper2) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 11:15 am:

Wow, absolutely beautiful pictures! Thanks for posting them! I enjoy looking at all the pictures of Calumet and the surrounding areas, and I sure miss the Copper Country! I agree with Kay Moore, there is beauty all around us, if we only take the time to find it! By the way, Kay, don't you have to cut your clematis down before winter, or is it the type you don't cut? I cut mine down every fall. Maybe that's the wrong thing to do...?

Beach frost looks like one of Susan Robinson's paintings.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 11:39 am:

Nice and colorful and yes...raspberries.
Now I'm ready for lunch.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 11:54 am:

Aww raspberries!!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 02:55 pm:

Great pics! All of them!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 02:56 pm:

Speaking of "looks like"...after a second look at the pix today I noticed that the 'curly leaves' look like those expensive yellow mushrooms used a lot in Oriental dishes. NOW, sho-nuff, I'm hungry! :9

By marty oldford (Martio) on Friday, November 18, 2011 - 07:55 pm:

Very cool photos Joe. I'll try that with my pansies
if it ever freezes down here in the Panhandle. Still
think your laundry line pics were the best
though.See you next summer.

Joe, these photos are breathless. Thanks for sharing them with us. Living in OK never affords the opportunity to see such wonders. They remind me how much natural beauty is in the Copper County and of days past!
