It's that time of year again here in the U.P., hockey is underway. The games this day were classified as Midget AA or Preseason High School. My great-nephew Derek is on the Escanaba team, he's #19 and so much fun to watch out there on the ice. His team played and outscored the Calumet team twice the day I shot these photos at the Calumet Coliseum. From what I understand, the young men on these teams will be trying out for their respective high school teams. No matter what team they end up playing on, they sure put on an thrilling display for us to enjoy. Great action, plenty of back and forth play and good sportsmanship, all things that make high school hockey so much fun to watch.

I used to love watching my boys play hockey when they were younger. There was a lot of outside games in North Dakota, though, and that was not pleasant. Now I watch the Red Wings in the warmth of my home:)

As they say..."A kid on ice, is seldom in hot water".....

It's that season again in Michigan. My grandson is a sophomore @ Wyandotte High and he is trying out for the team this month. Final cuts on varsity are to be announced today I believe. It is tough to make the squad in a Class A school with the state trophy for Division 2 just being put in the trophy case from last springs team. Good luck Brian.......

These 'kids' are so good on ice, I have to wonder if any of them ever 'figure-skate'?
