Big air out here on the dune tonight, spittin' a little rain at the windows. It's blowing about 20 out of the northwest now, supposed to rise to about 30 and stay that way through the day tomorrow. I see it's supposed to be about 10 mph higher wind in Eagle Harbor. Waves are breaking on the third reef out tonight, and I'll bet by tomorrow morning there will be whitewater on the fourth reef. The wind is making a lot more noise than our usual fall storms, because we have most of the leaves still on the trees here. The wind is making a little buffeting noise on the house, but the frame isn't shaking like it will in more air. There was a nice green flash at sunset.
The pier lights at Muskegon and Grand Haven are glowing through the occasional curtain of light rain out there in the dark. The flashers on the databuoys straight offshore of us are glimmering irregularly, which is what you'd expect to see with this kind of swell running. No lights anywhere farther out, which is good, because anything else out there would be a lake boat. Stay safe, all mariners. Good night and may God bless all.

Fish bowels vs. fish bowls?
Aw Capt. Paul (Eclogite), you had me going on that one … I thought perhaps fish "bowels" were the marine equivalent of haggis! Ewww!
