As promised from Monday's Pasty Cam, we're finishing our lunch time views with Bob Gilreath. In case you weren't with us on Monday, Bob takes his lunch and walks to a bench on the waterfront in Houghton, where he nourishes himself with food and beauty to behold, across the Portage Canal. We're looking at the Hancock/Ripley/Quincy Hill side of the Lift Bridge, here.

Our weather and the scenery have changed a bit since Bob snapped these shots, much cooler and the color is for the most part gone. So that makes the photos just that much more enjoyable, being able to sit here viewing them, while in reality we're getting back to more normal fall fare in the weather department.

Awesome, awesome colors!! Great pictures, Bob!!

I took pix of that area a couple of years ago and they're awesome. Don't know if I put them in my gallery or not, but the color was spectacular.

Wish I had your spot to eat lunch.

I hear gunfire. Pheasant season, maybe??

Autumn is such a colorful + beautiful time of the year, and Happy Sweetest Day.

Very beautiful pictures Bob! Deb,it's duck season here. Pheasant season, at least here, starts the end of October.

We just got home from 10 days in Munising where we hit fall
color at peak. It was wonderful to be back on the Big Lake,
and Munising was the perfect location to take day trips. The
highlight was the Au Train Songbird Trail, a 2 mile trek
through the woods. We had to work off the pasties we got
from Muldoon's and the Bear Trap Inn! Great trip--we'll be
looking forward to our next trip across the Mighty Mac.

Super pictures, Bob...I live in Hancock and really appreciate how you captured the beauty of fall in the area. Thank you!

Once again, awesome pictures of color. Thomas, you're right but the only problem is...the season is too short, which makes it kinda sad. :}

The house I grew up in is about 2 blocks east of the first photo, on Center St. The current owners have done a wonderful job of keeping this historic house maintained. The photo reminds me of walking to school, kicking the leaves and taking the most beautiful ones from the ground, home with me.

We just got home from taking a ride out to the breakwaters at the end of canal rd. Took some nice pictures of the waves coming over the breakwall. We also went to McLain Park and saw people surfing. I hope some of those pictures turn out. The waves were kicking up more in the morning at the canal breakwaters, the wind was stronger. There was a guy getting ready to go wind surfing but, I was ready to leave.

Had a fun day.

mickill mouse, thought there would be some tough yooper surfers out there today. Waves were supposed to get to 25 ft. More surfers than I thought;

TO HOLLIDAYS; Thank You, for the links of the surfers. I do hope some of my pictures turn out. I really do have to invest in a better camera, at least one with more mega pixels and zoom.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, October 15, 2011 - 09:41 pm:

Waves never made 25 ft today, least not at Waterworks park anyway. We were there at 5:40 this morning and saw what appeared to be maybe 10-12 ft coming in. Even at that height though they are quite impressive to see. I wish I would have been somewhere between Pictured Rocks and Whitefish Point as they were predicted to be 22-27 ft. Now those would have been some photos.....

suppose to be windy again today.
