When Bob Schwarzkopf saw this fox, it was one of those "right place, at the right time" kind of moment. He said the bushy tailed critter was posing for him on the road near Calumet Waterworks. That was mighty nice of him to do that for Bob. :->
The two color photos Bob snapped were obviously taken a couple weeks back, when the colors were strikingly brilliant still. That's my biggest gripe against fall, is that it never lasts long enough, especially here in the Keweenaw.

Good morning..
Is the "Eagle Harbor Web" waking up? Think we can have a "snow contest" again? Has been a spell...

Pat & Glenda, if you are on facebook, Eagle Harbor Web is there. Posted a beautiful picture this morning.

While growing up on Torch Lake (Hubbell) we would check out the fox across the lake at UREUX POINT. We never harmed them but they were fun to scare up. Can any sleuths on this great site provide information on how/why this name came about. I can not find it in any of the Monette books or old Houghton County histories.

I miss the old Eagle Harbor Web page, too. I still check it every day, in hopes that George will have it updated. I know, I know, he's on Facebook (isn't everyone?) but it's not the same and that snow contest was always so much fun. REALLY miss that every fall/winter.

Ureux sounds French, given the number of French and French/Canadians folks who settled around Torch Lake, it may have been a family name.

My, what a big tail you have, foxxy loxxy!;> JoAnne, I agree with you about Facebook, it's just not the same. I very rarely go there.

Ureux Point? Now there's one I've never heard of! You sure can learn something new every day on this site! I wonder if Google® Maps got it right: click → Ureux Point, MI.
Ooops, so there's a new trick needed to post a Google® Map now! (Fixed it, now the above link works!)

We just noticed a new home page on George's Eagle Harbor..slight modification, but first update in quite a while. We really enjoy his writings and musings that he used to present there...like JoAnne, "Facebook" is just not the same. We are hoping George dives back into the old ways some times..

Didn't mean to stir up people by mentioning Facebook. I was only making a suggestion to get a George's Eagle Harbor fix.....

Hopefully George's health will allow him to keep his website going. Last I remembered, he was having some health issues. I read his summer sailing this year was shortened some.
