Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 08:00 am:

Deb Simons and Mr. Deb (Ron) made a trek to the Keweenaw this past weekend to visit her Mom and to check out some of the color, too. They took a drive around the area, starting with the Mt. Calvary Cemetery right outside of Lake Linden and were treated to a row of beautiful hues, lining the outside edge. From there they headed out to Gay and snapped the next photo on there way through town. Deb's next two shots were both taken along US 41 on the way to Copper Harbor, with the first one a tunnel of yellow and the second one a mixture of orange, yellow and still a little green. So they were quite pleased to have seen so much color still hanging on while they were here for their visit.

The last photo is from Robert C. Wetton, taken on the main street in Dollar Bay. Someone the other day mentioned that there weren't as many brilliant hues this year and for the most part that holds true, until you see this shot from RCW. The bright red is there, if you know where to find it, just not as plentiful this fall.

Thanks for the tour, Deb, Mr. Deb and RCW! :->

WOW!! Should have gone to $ Bay!! LOVE that red!! We saw some reds, but mostly oranges, yellows and, still, a lot of greens, especially from Copper Harbor to Eagle River. I think the cemetery was one of the most beautiful places we visited.

Thanks for posting these. I'll have to get the rest of them into my gallery when I have some time.

Very nice!

Look at all the color! Beautiful pictures Deb & Ron, thank you for capturing it for us to see here!!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 08:15 am:

Ron did an awesome job capturing beautiful U.P. fall color as well!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 08:27 am:

Ron??? I meant Robert! Sorry Robert! It's early....

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 08:29 am:

Great job capturing the colour of the Keweenaw!! We saw quite a bit of colour up through northern Wisconsin yesterday and still a little bit around the Baraga/Houghton area as we came into town last night. I'm sure most of it will be gone by tomorrow though; the forecast is for high 40s and winds over 50 mph, so while the leaves will be gone, Lake Superior should be quite a sight by tomorrow afternoon....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 08:35 am:

Beautiful pictures, Deb, Mr. Wetton, and Mary; thank you! I especially like Deb's first US 41 photo and Mr. Wetton's wonderful red tree in Dollar Bay!

By Donna (Donna) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 08:37 am:

That red is fabulous!

On another note...my neighbor's 2 y/o daughter and I have been busy outside. We made lots of little ghosts to hang in a tree, and some to line her yard area...and yesterday, I was outside, she peeked out and looked at me and said "Where did the leaves go?" I told her "Mother Nature is using them for a blanket for her big nap that's coming".....

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 08:52 am:

Thanks Deb and Robert these pictures are beautiful! We will have rain here in mid-Michigan today. And then cooler temps... It was great while it lasted! Have a great Thursday!!

Colors were indeed spotty when we were UP to the Keweenaw last weekend. One of the best areas for color, though, was US2 between Epoufette and Brevort. Certainly enjoyed our time there and the wonderful weather! Keweenaw one day and Porkies the next, every place else on Saturday! Got my pics up on Facebook and hope to get them up in my gallery tonight or soon!

Thank you Deb and Mr. Deb for capturing this lovely scene. It it comforting to remember my grandparents and family are cosily tucked in this fine place of rest and beauty.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 09:45 am:

The first photo (Mt Calvary) is a sad reminder but the captured colors of God's beautifully-'painted' trees eases the sad feelings.

By Helen Marie Chamberlain (Helen) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 10:07 am:

Again, wonderful pictures! We didn't have much color this year, but all of you did a great job showing some we did have. Thank you!

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg252) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 10:35 am:

The color was overall down a bit this year due to drought I think, but if you looked around, like these pics, you could find some spectacular shots.

Great pics

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 12:12 pm:

Ahh, beautiful fall colors! I particularly like the bright red in Dollar Bay, 'cuz it reminds me of the fierce crimson display that was there every year just across the road from the front window at my folks' place just about a quarter mile up the hill on Fifth Street (Chassell-Painesdale Road) from "beautiful downtown Chassell"!

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 01:32 pm:

Oh, and pytavey, in case anyone's interested the fierce crimson here and in my previous note was entered thus:

\1{\b{\rgb{E32636,fierce crimson}}}

Where:
\1{} = font size
\b{} = bold
\rgb{} = font color, 'E32636' = crimson

Aren't computers fun?
(I'll admit that is a bit more arcane than posting a clickable link!) <grin>

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 02:39 pm:

Wow! More great Autumn photos. Why aren't they in Ideals Magazine?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 07:04 pm:

Shirley, you have it just exactly right. It's such a sad place, with so many of my relatives there, and relatives of friends are there. But at this time of year, with the trees so beautiful, it's almost peaceful. We were there with a friend. In fact, she posts here once in a while. She was visiting there from Idaho due to a death in her family. We just walked and talked and felt at peace with the world. And I snapped pictures. It was just gorgeous there.

And FRNash, that's awesome. Capt Paul has tried to teach me how to do that, but as I said on yesterday's page, I'm not exactly computer savvy!

And Kay, we saw your grandparent's grave. We usually visit that one when we're there also.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 10:12 pm:

Oh come now Deb, it's not that hard to create colours like these; You just need the touch and a bit of patience!! J

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 10:22 pm:

Aw Deb that is so thoughtful of you to acknowledge my grandparents and young uncle. The photos are so lovely, nice to think of the peace and contentment of their resting place. I don't understand people feel so anxious visiting cemetaries. I love wandering the Springfield < Il. one where Lincoln is buried. And the breese and rushing winds of The Little Big Horn where Custer and all those soldiers fell. I wish I could finally rest where I could always hear The Superior roar.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, October 14, 2011 - 09:31 pm:

Deb,
As you well know, there are so many beautiful cemeteries in the
UP (and Kay, I sure get that you want to be where you can hear
Mother Superior roar). I have always loved cemeteries. Found
them fascinating for their quiet beauty and historical
significance. They are places where we feel that we are able to
stop and think of those who were here before us and reflect on
what remains for us to do while we are "above ground." And, of
course, when we visit cemeteries where our loved ones have
been laid to rest, we reflect on who they were and what they
meant to us. How fortunate to be able to view the graves of our
loved ones in places where the stars can shine bright, wild
flowers bloom, autumn leaves change color, and the snow
makes a blanket for them.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 15, 2011 - 07:31 am:

That was so nicely written, Kosk. And you know I feel the same way as Kay about resting where you can hear Mother Superior roar. But I will be buried in the one above. But I love visiting cemeteries and I don't know why some people get so anxious either. But we are all different. With my dad there now, I like to go as often as I can. And this time of year, it was so beautiful.

Capt Paul, you quit showing off, lol!!
