2010 & 2009 for the plants (pumpkins and mushrooms)

2008 & 2007 for the autos (truck and car)

But then 1998 to 2003 all have some form of trees or bushes, or corn, which are all plantlike!

Good morning!

Good Morning. 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 were back to back plants, as were 2006 and 2007, and 2009 and 2010. We see back to back automobiles in 2007 and 2008. :-)

Good morning. Not even in the running today. Computer is so slow I couldn't get on.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 08:08 am:

Capt..they are a fungus right?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 08:09 am:

Gee, Capt Paul, when I took biology in high school, fungi were classified as plants. Things in science change over time, and I'm a little bit older than you are. According to Wickipedia, "The classification of fungi has been controversial until quite recently in the history of biology. Linnaeus' original classification placed the fungi within the Plantae, since they were unquestionably not animals and this was the only other alternative."

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 08:11 am:

Gosh Mikie; you need to let that computer have a few more bytes of the RAM for breakfast before asking it to take on the world....

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 08:12 am:

but in the mushroom picture, something like poison ivy or some kind of green plant growing.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 08:17 am:

Yes, there are plants growing around the mushrooms. There are some form of plant in many of the pictures, since I believe trees can be considered a plant. Capt?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 08:21 am:

Years ago Marianne, mushrooms were considered plants because they just didn't fit into the animal kingdom. In recent years with the advent of molecular methods for phylogenetic analysis however, fungi are now considered a separate kingdom, distinct from both plants and animals, from which they appear to have diverged a very long time ago. Some morphological, biochemical, and genetic features are shared with other organisms, while others are unique to the fungi, clearly separating them from the other kingdoms (plant or animal).

Ahh true Deb, but:

(One last post...they are getting donations because of this! How incredible...near or far...we need our Pasty Peeps help with this! Thank you!)

HI all;

I wanted to let people know that there is a Friends of the Poor walk on Friday, Sept. 23, from 3-5 p.m., starting in Agassiz Park and going through Calumet. There will be a booth near the "Farmer's Market"....with refreshments. We are encouraging people to either consider walking and getting pledges, or contributing in any small way.
Our little conference makes home visits to area people that are struggling to pay some of their essential bills, such as heat, power, water, medical, food. We don't have a store, but do everything through volunteer service.

All monies received stays in our local conference. If you care to sponsor one of the walkers in this walk, that would be great. If you can't at this time, keep in mind that we are here, if you know people that may need some help.

Our address is:

Sts. Martha and Mary St. Vincent de Paul
P.O.B. 546
Calumet, MI 49913

For people needing help, call: 337-6424

Thanks Much.

How about fried mushrooms at TGI Fridays?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 09:16 am:

.... with a side of southwest ranch dressing; yummy!!!

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 09:33 am:

Alex and Capt. Paul have a good plan to get their fried mushrooms at TGI Fridays. The mushrooms in the 2009 photo look like inky caps, which will get you feeling pretty nasty if you drink any alcohol along with them.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 10:54 am:

Yes, Janie, there are plants in the mushroom picture, as defined as having chlorophyll, behind and to the side of the mushrooms.

Yes, Capt Paul, that's pretty much what Wikipedia said. It's just that when I had high school biology, fungi were in the plant kingdom. Since I'm a chemist, I never took another biology class, ok, I took physiology my senior year in high school, but no more plants. However, the mushroom picture does have green plants in it, as well as the fungi.

Okay ... all our Pasty.com pilots and science people ... anyone have a good link so that we can keep track of the orbit of the space satellite as it descends to earth tonight or tomorrow?? I know the chances of seeing it are extremely remote ... just want to know that my pet chippy will be safe ... and haven't been able to find a good link. Thank you in advance!! ;-)

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Friday, September 23, 2011 - 03:42 pm:

Geez, I thought Fungi was a form of self-defense or a new exercise. :)

Diana, I'm no pilot or scientist, just a "space head", here's a link;

This is probably the best source of information about the UARS satellite, straight from the folks who track them:
