In today's review which year has tomatoes?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 07:59 am:

2005

Love the woodpecker!! Have a great day!!

By Bob Jewell, Farmington Hills (Rjewell) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:00 am:

Good morning

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:00 am:

All I see are the mountain ash berries in 2005!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:04 am:

LOL, I was so busy looking at pictures, that I didn't notice that they weren't tomatoes, but mountain ash berries.

After going through it again, I didn't see any either. I love it when Charlie does that, lol!

I love the postmistress and would absolutely love the view that Charlie has.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:16 am:

Today's trick question has a double zinger. First, the picture in the review is in fact Mountain Ash berries:

2005
But if you actually look at that day's Cam Notes in 2005, here's one of the secondary shots:
2005
So - technically - the answer to the original question, "In today's review which year has tomatoes?" could be considered as 2005.

As soon as the new shipment of Early Birds arrive, we'll retrofit Deb's post with one. In the meantime, have a tomato.

Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:19 am:

Deb, I also thought they were tomatoes...cherry tomatoes.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:22 am:

But I should get two worms for identifying that they were berries!

By Donna (Donna) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:54 am:

Are there now "worms"? Marsha, I think you mean BIRDS, but I sorta like the worm idea....Charlie..you could slap that on the last person to get the right answer! LOL

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 08:58 am:

Hilarious!! I love starting my day with a good laugh. I, too, thought they were cherry tomatoes, Janie. But the real ones look good enough to eat!!!!!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 09:03 am:

I figured if the early bird gets the worm, I should get 2 worms for noticing that they were berries instead of tomatoes.

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 10:04 am:

Just opened the CNN/Money web page on "25 best places to retire", and the first town that comes up is Marquette. Fun to see that....but hope there's not a stampede!

By Tom (Tom) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 10:32 am:

wow, Charlie is being tricky this morning!
I had to go through the sequence several times but never did find tomatoes. Didn't think to go back to 2005 and look.
I think I will check it out later.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 11:51 am:

Thats one heck of a tomato plant, Deb! Good morning all.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 02:46 pm:

Good pictures. Tomatoes look good, 2.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 04:14 pm:

THE FAT LADY'S ABOUT TO TAKE THE STAGE! I can see why my dad didn't leave it to his kids because he didn't want us fighting over it, but my step mother who could give a •••• about the C.C., that's just down right sickening, I'm sure they gave L.B. away. It's not approved yet, but I know she's begging for the $'s, I spent my whole life up there and why I went to school in Marquette, this change is gonna be hard to swallow!

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 04:20 pm:

Speaking of tomatoes and not about Mountain Ash berries, which I think Marsha should get credit for--getting a frost tonight in Ontonagon. Picked all of our peppers, grape tomatoes and onions. The harvest has just begun. Covered the remains of the garden and hoping for the best tonight. Temps going down to the low 30s. Weather was great today, cool, sunny and lots of lake action.
No burning smell from Minnesota today, hope the fire is out.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 04:39 pm:

UC, been there and done that, very sad that the parent doesn't protect the kids from the evil Stepmom or Stepdad. It's really sad that when someone dies in the family that a "Civil War" begins. Hope everyone that reads this puts a clause in their will for the kids. I did. So sorry UC. You have my deepest sympathy.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 05:46 pm:

Uncle Chuck asked me to post a couple photos of Little Betsy for him, so you'll all see what the place looks like. He also had this to say:

"Just want everyone to know what I was talking about. I knew this day was coming and I'm not crying in my beer, but after 53 years, I can't believe she's gonna be gone and I can't go there. Too many financial obligations for me to buy at this time, but we'll start new memories with a new generation U.P. there"

Little Betsy 1
Little Betsy 2

Hold on to the memories of old, Uncle Chuck and build upon them to make your new ones. :-)
I should have included Norma and the rest of the gang on this post, too...as they're all losing their little portion of the U.P....HUGS to you all.

U.C. I am so sorry how things worked out for you. When the farms came up for sale to settle my dad's estate, I was ready to pack my bags and prepare for the worse. I had no step parent to go up against but 4 older brothers and a older and younger sisters. Things really turned out for a Blessing, it was figured if the farms were coming up for sale, my money was just as good as anyone else, plus my brothers and sisters were all in agreement no one deserved having part of the farms was me because of the times I was the one that helped dad with the farming and cattle. So instead of getting my part of the money, I got my 20 acres that I am so thankful everyday! I hope for you that things may change in your favor.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 07:32 pm:

WOW!! UC, we were actually looking at this place online. I just needed one quick glance to know it was one and the same. If we had the money, we actually thought about buying it, as it's in the general area that we'd love to be. And you're right, they're letting it go for pretty cheap. I'm so sorry for you, but hopefully, you'll find somewhere else to place your cap!! It's a dirty shame what they're doing.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 07:57 pm:

Pardon my french UC, but that just sucks!!!!!! L

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 09:42 pm:

Mary and all, thank you so much for your kind words. And Mary thank you for adding me to the post as well. But we have many family members who are pasty cammers who are also very sad with this decision. Capt. Paul you said it best - this does just suck!

My husband and I now have a home in Lower Northern Michigan that we love, however. I can easily say for the entire Paulson family that are hearts will always be in the Keweenaw and mostly in Little Betsy!!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 10:34 pm:

Norma and Uncle Chuck, thats too bad you guys aren't able to keep it. You have so many memories there.

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 10:43 pm:

UC, Norma, & Company -- So sorry to hear about LB. But hang in there! You've got the right attitude and everything you guys post tells us all how much you love it UP north. You'll make it work, and you'll get to come home to a place no one can take away from you. Count on it!

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 11:00 pm:

Thanks for the kind words everyone, what goes around comes around, stepmother see's only dollar signs, as I said before, she could careless about the U.P. and the history it has for us! Enough said, thanks again, good night.

UC

P.S. Deb, you wouldn't have wanted this place, it needs a lot of upgrade and you couldn't stay there year around.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 - 11:06 pm:

I wouldn't want it now anyway, not after knowing how you got cheated out of it.

BTW, finally got in touch with Norma on FB. Thanks!!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, September 16, 2011 - 01:29 am:

UC my wife went thru the same thing with the evil Agnes. She was the stepmother from •••• for a good part of my wifes life. My father in law worked hard, he died first, and she left most of her estate to her useless nephews and brother in law. Even treated her own kids the same. I hope Satan enjoys her company. But should warn him I feel sorry that he has to put up with her for eternity.
