Good morning from Minnesota. It's officially fall here because bowling started last night. Sigh!!

Good Friday-Eve Morning!!

Working from home today and I can barely see the other side of our field from all the smoke in the air. I briefly stepped outside and the smoke is almost choking; not a good morning to be outside.......

Capt. Paul, every Thursday morning I check out the US Drought Monitor report and my heart just goes out to all of you in Texas. I keep checking the radar looking for some kind of rain or even a well-behaved tropical storm for you, and wonder when you'll see a change.

Hang in there, buddy. If you & the good Dr. need a place to stay, there are plenty of us up here with open doors to help you get out of the big dry for a while.

How are the colors coming up there? Might choose the weekend of October 1 to come UP.

Capt...I wish that I could send you guys some of the rain that we have been getting here in SE-MI. It has turned into a cold, wet monsoon. Be safe!

Good Morning. Capt Paul, it breaks my heart what is going on in Texas, with the drought and the many fires going on down there! I heard at one point that fires had already burned areas the size of the whole state of Connecticut, before these current fires this week. Those Bastrop fires are incredibly bad. I read in the Austin paper this morning that they have a retrofitted jet for dumping fire retardant, that is just sitting on the ground, because there isn't a pilot available. Most of the qualified pilots are working on fires out west, like California. The pilot who flew the plane in, is in a mandatory 2-day rest period because he had already flown too many days/hours in a row, to comply with the law. I think he can fly again Friday. You'd think that with all of the retired military pilots, they could train some in a hurry!

I hope that you all stay safe! And I hope the smoke clears soon for everyone's sakes! Stay safe! :-)

Just to add a bit of hope, saw a sign at the Sunshine Motel in Ontonagon today that read;

"Fall Colors Coming Soon To A Tree Near You".

They are coming. Went to Houghton and can see the changes. The next three weeks will be a "painted" landscape.
