Laurie Bashaw is our roving color reporter for the day, with an update on the progress of the fall colors for the Ishpeming area. Her first shot of the day shows the extent of the color change around Teal Lake, where there is plenty of color, but the hillside there is still sporting green in the midst of the hues. Then Laurie takes us along, as she explores closer to her home, where the color is brilliant driving along the road. She then took off on foot, to get a better view, showing that the leaves are really in various stages of turning right now, with subdued reds and bright oranges mixed in amongst the remaining green, too. A bonus discovery in her walk-about was this moss covered rock in the bottom photo. It kind of looks like someone installed wall to wall carpeting over it, in a pretty shade of forest green. More of nature's beauty that surrounds us each day.

Remember now, this is just a report from the Ishpeming area. Laurie says that their leaves always seem to change there, sooner than in Marquette and the Keweenaw, so the amount of color still varies widely, depending on where you're out and about, exploring.

Gorgeous photos, Laurie. Didn't I just see them yesterday, lol?? Nice to be able to see them on here, they're so much more vivid than in an e-mail. Thanks so much for sharing them!! Awesome job!!

Oh and Mary, I love your descriptions. Makes us feel as if we're there!!

Looking pretty! Thank you Laurie for the superior fall color!

Beautiful photos showing the progress of my favorite season. Looking forward to our colors. Just a sparse sprinkling of color around here so far. There is that smell of autumn too. I think The Big Lake makes a difference like The River does around here. Too bad they can't bottle up that earthy smell to be used on a crummy winter day hey? Thanks Mary also. Raining more today than yesterday when I had some of my kids here for a get together. But good time inspite of the cool rainy day.

Hold on! I'm coming! Be UP in just over a week!

By Donna (Donna) on Monday, September 26, 2011 - 09:29 am:

Ah Kay....you hit that nail on the head with the SMELL of fall....oh how wonderful a whiff of that would be during a blizzard eh?

Beautimous pics today.

Old rocks with moss....seems there should be a story to go with it...like someone's Grandpa telling stories around the bonfire....

These photos are so beautiful.....I really like the pinkish-hue (like the 3rd photo) that shows up so much amid the already turned leaves....looks as though those trees have been colored with pastels. And also the green of the pines appear to be 'framing' the trees of color. Thanks Laurie and Mary

We took a ride yesterday and took some pretty pictures of the Fall colors. Coming back to Lake Linden thru Gay, we saw a rather large critter crossing the road. It was dark fur, about 4 ft. long and most of it was a long bushy tail. It was low to the ground. I googled weasles and the only picture that looked like it was a 'mink weasle.' The fur coat looked really sleek, if you will and shiny and dark. It took off into the woods before I could get a picture of it.

Took some pretty nice pictures.

took pretty nice pictures of the Fall colors (*_*). I do not want anybody coming back and saying I thought you said you did not get any pictures of the critter. LOL...LOL

It was just a beautiful day yesterday.

Even with the beautiful colors I noticed the moss growing. Too often it is the colorful things but not the other forest inhabitants that get noticed. Mosses are very beautiful and they have a distinct odor.

4 foot long weasel, Mickill? whoa!! :-O

U.P. fall colors rock !!!!! nice

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, September 26, 2011 - 11:31 am:

We had something run across the road ahead of us last month in Aura. Couldn't figure out what it was. It streaked across the road, not running in the same way something in the dog or cat family would do.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, September 26, 2011 - 02:28 pm:

Beautiful Autumn pics! The only thing about those colored leaves is having to rake them up later on.

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Monday, September 26, 2011 - 03:11 pm:

Thanks everyone. I agree with Thomas on raking. Last year we borrowed our son's riding mower with two baggers, which made the job a little easier. Another thing about the colored leaves is the white stuff that follows.

TO SHIRLEY; This thing was pretty long and low to the ground. Wish I could have gotten a piture of it. Never saw anything like that before.

Laurie: Thanks for the pictorial update. Hope the colors hold until
we make it UP next weekend for Canadian Thanksgiving.

mickell mouse, what you describe sounds very much like a fisher.
