We've experienced a lot of winds in the past few weeks here UP North and when that happens, Lake Superior always whips itself into a frenzy. That's exactly what the Yooper surfers watch for and they grab their boards, get out there in the water and ride the waves in to shore. Shawn Malone, of Lake Superior Photo was on hand in Marquette, to capture these wet suit wearing surfers in action and boy did she do a spectacular job of it. Her last photo here today is outstanding, with the color of the water and the mish-mash of waves she captured behind the two surfers. All I can say is that I'm glad I wasn't out there in that churning water, but it sure is fun to see these guys enjoying the ride.

As my hubby's shirt from Copper World says, "Unsalted and Shark Free". However, wayyyyyyyyy too cold, lol!!! Looks like they're having a blast, though. Great job on the photography!!

Love the pics! I really love the beautiful green hue in Lake Superior. I notice that every time I photograph it, no matter what time of year it is, even in winter. So amazingly beautiful.

I agree with you Cindy.....when we lived in Charlevoix I was always awestruck by the consistently beautiful green water of Lake Michigan, had never seen water that color anywhere else. Wish I had the strong legs of those surfers!:-}

...and this is the time of year the water would be the warmest and wet suits are still needed. Brrrr...looks like fun though. Well, I'll be turning my attention to Dancing With The Stars that begins tonight at 8:00 CST. Woo hoo! I am a happy camper tonight.

Amazing shots today! There is a documentary named Unsalted, that follows a bunch of guys around the great lakes while they look for waves to surf. It's a great movie!
